We’ve got Club World Cup action coming our way on Wednesday, but for our Football Bet of the Day, we are once again turning our attention to England’s youngsters. Lee Carsley’s England U21 side will look to confirm their safe passage into the knockout stages as they face a Germany U21 team that has won two from two.

Read on for my Football Bet of the Day.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday, June 18

  • Price Boost - Germany U21 to win, BTTS, Nick Woltemade to score @ 6/1

Antonio Di Salvo’s Germany U21 side have looked utterly superb in their opening two matches of this Under-21 European Championship so far. They’ve smashed Slovenia U21 3-0, before beating Czech Republic U21 4-2, with their attack the most lethal at the competition so far.

Seven goals in two games has been an impressive feat and now they know that a point will be enough to secure top spot ahead of England in Group B. This meeting will be a clash between two of the sides looking to go all the way, but from what I’ve seen so far, Germany are the better team right now.

England U21 vs Germany U21 Odds

Carsley wasn't able to get his England team going against Slovenia, and the 0-0 draw has put them under pressure heading into this final group game. Given his side will likely go through even if they lose this one, and there could be benefits to coming second in terms of travel, I don’t know how bothered England will be if they fall to a defeat. They may not have a choice when it comes down to it.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Germany have scored seven goals in two matches at the Euros
  • Nick Woltemade is the top scorer with four

Having started this tournament with high expectations, they have been lowered somewhat as we approach the knockout stages. England have a lot of talent, but they have looked slightly off their best. That’s not to say that they can’t win this competition - they can - but they may have to take the scenic route to get to the final and win it.

The Price Boost I am backing here offers terrific value in my opinion, given I am leaning in favour of the Germans. As well as backing Di Salvo’s men to win the game in 90 minutes, I’m backing Nick Woltemade to score at any time. The big Stuttgart striker hit a hat-trick in the first game and followed it up with another in the win over Czech Republic to take his total for the competition to four - and he’s leading the scoring charts so far.

Today's Football Fixtures

He’s going to give England serious problems in this one and I’m expecting a decent number of goals with the quality of the attackers on show. Harvey Elliott, Jon Rowe and James McAtee are three key forwards who all caused problems in England’s opener, while Jay Stansfield and Ethan Nwaneri are yet to make their mark.

England should be able to find the net and that means adding BTTS to this selection rounds off the bet. With Betfred’s Price Boost, our Football Bet of the Day for Wednesday, June 18 comes in at 6/1.
