Carabao cup trophy scaled

Arsenal and Newcastle meet in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final on Tuesday (20:00, ITV1/Sky Sports Main Event) and Alexander Isak is a player to watch heading into the tie at the Emirates Stadium.

The Sweden forward has scored nine times in his last eight appearances and is being linked with a potential move away from St James' Park, with the Gunners believed to be among the teams considering moving for him in the summer. Isak scored the winner in Saturday's 2-1 victory at Tottenham and can help his team take down north London's other big club on Tuesday, with the 25-year-old featuring in my Football Bet of the Day.

Football Odds

The Carabao Cup could be a real opportunity for Newcastle to finally end their trophy drought, with their last domestic piece of silverware coming in 1955.

They reached the final of this competition two years ago, losing 2-0 to Manchester United, and playing the second leg of their semi-final at home could prove vital.

Eddie Howe's side have won their last two home league fixtures against Arsenal 1-0, with Isak netting the only strike in the most recent of those in November.

The Magpies sneaked past Nottingham Forest on penalties in their opening Carabao Cup game and have since beaten AFC Wimbledon 1-0, Chelsea 2-0 and Brentford 3-1.

Injuries have again prevented Howe from rotating this season, with Solna-born star Isak starting against both Chelsea and Brentford and the head coach is unlikely to drop his star striker when his team are just 180 minutes from a return place at Wembley.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United Odds

Arsenal's run of four straight victories was ended by Saturday's 1-1 at Brighton. That run began with a 3-2 Carabao Cup success over Crystal Palace and they previously beat Bolton 5-1 and Preston 3-0.

Mikel Arteta has previously relied on a strong defence, but they have been less watertight this term, conceding in four of their last five in all competitions.

While Jurrien Timber is back available following suspension, the Gunners are still without Ben White and they do not seem as balanced at the back as in previous years.

It is White's defensive right-back channel in which Isak thrives and it was a cross from the Newcastle right which he converted for his winner against Spurs.

The 25-year-old is the Premier League's man in form and could transfer his momentum to the Carabao Cup.

Isak scored against Chelsea in this competition and seems to like facing the London clubs.

He has recorded league goals against the Blues, Tottenham (two), Arsenal and Brentford, and the former Borussia Dortmund striker could punish an uncertain Gunners defence.
