Football Bet of the Day: Celta looking to solidify Europa League qualification hopes
Tuesday brings us plenty of football action, including the second leg of the Championship play-off tie between Sunderland and Coventry City, but my focus is on La Liga as Celta Vigo continue their bid to secure Europa League football against Real Sociedad at Balaidos Stadium (19:00, live on Premier Sports Player).
Read on for my Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday, May 13.
Football Bet of the Day - Tuesday, May 13
- Celta Vigo to win and over 2.5 goals vs Real Sociedad @ 10/3
*odds correct at time of publication
Celta Vigo currently sit seventh in the table, two points better off than eighth-placed Rayo Vallecano, while the hosts' hopes of securing European football next term have faded fast, as they currently sit in 12th spot.
Sociedad enter Tuesday's contest off the back of a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, making five matches without a victory in the Spanish top flight.
Imanol Alguacil's men are currently four points behind Vallecano, who occupy the current qualifying spot for the Conference League play-offs, so European football isn't totally out of the question for the Basque side.
In addition, Tuesday's fixture could go a long way in deciding who qualifies for what competition as Sociedad are only six points off their opponents here, so a victory at Balaidos Stadium would put them the battle for seventh heading into the final few games of the campaign.
However, it's been an underwhelming campaign for Tuesday's hosts, winning just 12 of their 35 matches, suffering 16 defeats in the process.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Celta Vigo are looking to do the double over Real Sociedad in La Liga, winning the corresponding fixture 2-0 earlier this season
- Real Sociedad are winless in their last five matches
Real Sociedad vs Celta Vigo Odds
As mentioned in the introduction, Celta are on course to secure Europa League football for next season - a competition they last featured in back in 2016/17, famously reaching the semi-finals before losing to Manchester United.
Their away record doesn't make for great reading - they rank 17th in La Liga for points earned on the road - and it's mainly their home form which has seen them involved in the battle for Europe, but I believe they can pick up a vital three points on their travels.
Claudio Giraldez's side will enter this match off the back of a brilliant 3-2 victory over Sevilla, and with European football within in touching distance, I'm anticipating a strong performance from Tuesday's visitors.
Celta's away contests also tend to be entertaining affairs, as they've scored 10 and conceded 10 over their last five.
Sociedad are winless in their last five and their home form of late has seen them winning one, drawing two, and losing two, scoring three and conceding five during that time.
With the hosts' quest for European football seemingly all but over if you go off the form book, it's hard to see them getting anything from this game as they don't have a great deal to play for. So, I'm opting for a Celta Vigo win as well as over 2.5 goals.
