We’ve got loads of football coming our way this evening with the Champions League in full flow as well as a full schedule of EFL fixtures. One of these has caught our eye in the Championship for our Football Bet of the Day, so let’s head to East Anglia in search of a winner.

Football Odds

There’s a clash between Norwich and Sheffield Wednesday (19:45, Sky Sports+) this evening in the Championship that feels like a bit of a last-chance saloon for both teams in regards to their play-off hopes. Norwich haven’t kicked on as expected and keep dropping silly points at home, with the 1-1 draw with Oxford on Friday night just the latest example of them not being able to push towards the top six.

They now sit seven points behind the play-offs, one point above tonight’s visitors Sheffield Wednesday, who have also been hit and miss in recent weeks. They hammered lowly Plymouth Argyle 3-0 last time out but have also suffered disappointing home defeats to Sunderland and Coventry in recent weeks. The 4-0 defeat at Burnley looks worse than the performance suggested, but they will need to put a serious run of form together between now and the end of the season if they are to bridge that eight-point gap.

They’ve got a gargantuan Sheffield derby coming their way on Sunday but before that, Danny Rohl will lead his team to Carrow Road. It’s a place that has served Norwich well in the past but they have dropped too many points, with four 1-1 draws in their last six matches. It’s a strange position for the club to be in given they have arguably the best striker in the league at their disposal.

Norwich vs Sheffield Wednesday Odds

So for my Football Bet of the Day I’m not going to back Norwich to win what I believe will be another close encounter, but I am going to back Josh Sargent to find the net. In a division lacking true goalscoring number nines, he, alongside Joel Piroe, are probably the best of the bunch. The issue for Norwich hasn’t been the American’s goal-rate, but his injury issues as once again they had to go without him for two months this season as he underwent groin surgery.

Now he’s back fit and scoring goals. He’s now got eight in his last eight Championship appearances, taking his total up to 12 for the season, while he obviously scored against Oxford as the Canaries failed to make their advantage pay. His movement and deadliness in front of goal surely means that a Premier League team will come knocking for his services in the summer, with Leeds and Brentford rumoured to be interested in securing his signature.

A striker in form is so easy to back, while Wednesday have kept just two clean sheets in their last seven, with a few defensive injuries of their own to worry about. I think Sargent can make them pay with another impressive performance, and I think the odds on offer for him to find the net are more than generous at 7/4. Sargent to score is my Football Bet of the Day for Tuesday, March 11.
