Football Bet of the Day: Paraguayans to exact revenge on Bolivians

It's been a disappointing 2025 Copa Libertadores group stage for Olimpia Asuncion, who have failed to win any of their first five games, taking just two points. The Paraguayans are guaranteed to finish bottom of Group H, while Bolivian side San Antonio Bulo Bulo are nailed on for third place, which will see them continue their continental campaign in the Copa Sudamericana.

Olimpia and SA Bulo Bulo were involved in an entertaining encounter in Cochabama, Bolivia, last month, with the hosts triumphing 3-2. The return fixture takes place in the Paraguayan capital of Asuncion this week (23:00), and features in my Football Bet of the Day for Thursday, May 29...

Football Bet of the Day - Thursday, May 29

  • Match Result & Both Teams To Score - Olimpia Asuncion & Yes (vs San Antonio Bulo Bulo) @ 5/4

Olimpia and San Antonio were both always up against it to finish in the top two and prolong their Copa Libertadores campaign into the knockout phase, with Velez Sarsfield and Penarol always fancied to take the two top spots, and that's how things have transpired.

Both sides have encountered issues at either end, each scoring just five goals and conceding 11 times.

Defensive issues were on show in April's reverse fixture in Bolivia as five goals were scored, three for San Antonio and two for Olimpia. Remarkably, there was just one first-half strike, in the 30th minute, with the game truly coming alive in the second half; four goals were scored between the 64th minute and full time.

Football Odds

I'm confident we can see some more goals in Thursday's fixture, with nothing riding on this game for either team. San Antonio are guaranteed to drop down to the Copa Sudamericana, while Olimpia cannot move up from fourth, with their continental campaign coming to a close this week.

As a result, backing both teams to score is the obvious play here. BTTS - Yes has landed in 60% (three) of Olimpia's group games, and 40% of San Antonio's.

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Both teams scored in April's five-goal H2H thriller
  • San Antonio have conceded 2+ goals in both group away games so far

You can back both teams to score at 8/11, but I'm adding in an Olimpia win, for a few reasons.

Firstly, El Decano will be desperate to avoid the embarrassment of failing to claim a group stage victory, as their record currently stands at two draws and three defeats.

The Paraguayans will also be eager to exact revenge on their Bolivian counterparts, after conceding in the 11th minute of second-half stoppage time last month to lose 3-2 in Cochabamba.

Thursday's hosts should be buoyed by the away record of San Antonio, who have lost 2-0 to Penarol in Uruguay and 3-0 to Velez Sarsfield in Argentina, shipping five goals and failing to score. They'll fancy their chances of breaching Olimpia's backline in Asuncion, considering Fabian Bustos' side conceded four in one home game against Velez Sarsfield, but I don't think a goal will be enough to avoid defeat.

Olimpia scored twice in Bolivia, so they'll be confident of striking multiple times on home soil, in a game which should serve up plenty of entertainment.

A home win, and both teams to score, is my Football Bet of the Day for Thursday, May 29.
