Football Bet of the Day: All go for Malmo

We’re back with our Football Bet of the Day for Thursday and there’s plenty of Europa League qualifiers to get stuck into. We have now reached the second leg of the play-off round which means these teams are just 90 minutes from making it into the 36-team Europa League league phase.
With the financial benefits that brings, there’s a lot on the line, and one particular fixture has caught my eye. Read on for Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Thursday, August 28
- Malmo (A) to beat Sigma Olomouc @ 8/5
*odds correct at time of publication
Swedish giants Malmo travel to Czechia to take on Sigma Olomouc (17:30) in the second leg of their Europa League play-off after a comprehensive first-leg win. Two goals from Sead Haksabanovic and a late penalty from Lasse Berg Johnsen secured a 3-0 victory for the hosts and so they should be able to cruise through to the league phase in this second leg.
Malmo currently sit third in the Allsvenskan after 21 matches, while Sigma have only picked up 10 points after six Czech First League fixtures - placing them sixth in the early runnings of their new league season. The disparity between the two teams was pretty obvious in the first leg, with Malmo being efficient in front of goal but also the dominant side over the 90 minutes.
They had seven total shots to four, nine corners to three and 57% possession on a brilliant night for the Swedish outfit. It leaves Sigma with a load of work to do and they’ve struggled to get going this term - now losing three of their last four games without scoring. I’m not convinced that they can land a blow on Malmo, given their lack of attacking strength.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Malmo won the first leg 3-0
- Sigma have lost three of their last four games without scoring
The Czech outfit have only scored four in their last six and they need to score four on the night to secure an unforgettable comeback. I can’t see it happening when you look at the quality that Malmo have in their squad, including one of Europe’s most exciting young strikers, 19-year-old Daniel Gudjohnsen.
Yes - he is the son of Icelandic legend Eidur Gudjohnsen and yes, that makes all of us far too old. Former Leeds defender Pontus Jansson is a rock at the back and Haksabanovic is a serious goal threat for Malmo, so I just believe they will have too much for Sigma once again.
The value to back them to win, given they just beat Sigma 3-0 is absolutely massive. I thought they’d be odds-on to win again, and although the game state is worth taking into account, I just believe they are the superior team, and worth backing on the night.
At 8/5, we will back Malmo to beat Sigma Olomouc for Thursday’s Football Bet of the Day.
