Football Bet of the Day: New York to win potential goal-fest

Thursday's Football Bet of the Day actually takes place in the early hours of Friday morning in the form of some Major League Soccer action, as New York City FC welcome Atlanta United to Yankee Stadium (00:30, live on Apple TV).

The visitors are still seeking their first away win of the season, while the hosts are looking to bounce back from last week's draw against Nashville SC. Read on for Thursday's Football Bet of the Day.

New York City are 9/10 to claim all three points in the early hours of Friday morning, giving them an implied win probability of 52.6%, while the draw is 5/2 and you can get the same price for an Atlanta win.

It was a familiar story for New York in their most recent meeting with Nashville, as they had to come from two goals down to salvage a point at Geodis Park.

So far in 2025, they have conceded the opening goal in over half of their regular-season fixtures (9/17) but have managed to earn points in two of their previous three games where they've shipped the first goal.

In fact, the Boys in Blue have conceded five goals across their last two games - one more than they allowed in their previous eight matches before that - suggesting that there's been some vulnerability in their backline in recent weeks.

However, I'm expecting a better performance from NYCFC here as they've got the joint-highest amount of home wins in the MLS this season, but the three league defeats they've endured have all come on their own turf.

Atlanta's two-game winning streak was halted last time out, losing to New York Red Bulls at the Red Bull Arena, but they'll be confident of causing NYCFC some problems here.

Prior to the 2-0 loss last weekend, they scored seven goals across their previous three games, and are unbeaten in their last five league meetings versus New York City. However, they've only beaten the Boys in Blue once away from home - back in the 2018 play-offs.

In addition, Atlanta have conceded multiple goals in several away visits this term, collecting just two points on the road, which suggests a comfortable win for the hosts on Friday morning.

New York have never lost a regular-season meeting with Atlanta since their arrival into MLS, so I'm going to back the hosts to get the job done here, as well as both teams getting on the scoresheet.
