Football Bet of the Day: League leaders backed again in Paraguay

Sunday’s domestic football action comes from all over the world, with the Women’s European Championship gearing up for the semi-finals and the Club World Cup now at an end. 

It means once again we are heading to South America in search of Sunday success for our Football Bet of the Day.

I’ve been waxing lyrical about Trinidense for some time now, and I hope you’ll join me in backing the Paraguayan outfit on Sunday. They travel to face Guarani (22:30 BST), knowing another win would mark them out as genuine title contenders - something I predicted at the start of the Clausura campaign. 

Trinidense finished fourth in the Apertura, the campaign that takes place in the first half of 2025, but the way they ended the season and the underlying numbers they were posting gave me belief that they could close the gap on the champions Libertad. 

It was a 10-point gap between them and the Apertura champions, but Trinidense finished the season in sparkling form with four wins and a draw out of their last five. They only failed to challenge for the title because of the massive number of draws they racked up - 10 in total - the highest number in the division.

They only lost four games all season and that cracking form has carried on into the Clausura this season. They’ve begun the new season with two wins out of two, and sit top of the table having scored eight goals in those two matches so far. 

The Asuncion-based outfit truly are title contenders this season and they do face a big test this weekend as they travel to Guarani. They finished third in the league last season but their form hasn’t been quite as good, as they’ve lost four of their last seven league outings. 

These two met on the final day of the Apertura, with Trinidense coming out as 2-1 winners, and I’m more than happy to back them to win again. Given the league leaders’ massive love for goals right now, I think it also makes sense to back both teams to score. 

Both teams have scored in eight of the last nine Trinidense matches, and their 4-2 and 4-3 wins so far this term have been extremely entertaining. This is a massive test to see how far the away side have come, but I’m getting on board with them again at a big price.
