Football Bet of the Day: Entertainment at Elland Road
There are four Premier League fixtures coming our way on Sunday but for our Football Bet of the Day we are dropping down to the Championship in search of some value. We’ve got a belting Yorkshire derby coming our way as Leeds United host Sheffield Wednesday at Elland Road, with kick-off at 12:00, live on Sky Sports.
So where does the value lie? Read on for my Football Bet of the Day for Sunday, January 19.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, January 19
- Leeds to win and BTTS @ 21/10
Backing Leeds to win a home match this season is hardly a surprise. Daniel Farke’s men have picked up the most points out of any team at home this season, winning 10, drawing two and losing just one of their 13 home fixtures so far.
In many of these games, they haven’t given the opposition a sniff, with shots on target hard to come by for visiting sides. It’s also been a fairly successful winter period for Leeds as despite dropping a few points here and there, they have only lost once in their last 13 in all competitions.
The result on Friday night also went their way and kept them above both Sunderland and Burnley, who drew 0-0 at Turf Moor as Wilson Isidor dramatically missed two penalties. Leeds are in pole position to win this league title and I believe they will do so based upon the quality of their squad, and the fact that Farke has been here so many times before.
If Leeds manage to his 90 points this term, which is a possibility, Farke will have recorded four 90+ point seasons in the Championship, two with Norwich, and two with Leeds. This Sunday’s fixture should be a belter, and I think we will see goals at both ends.
Sheffield Wednesday are a decent Championship outfit and in Danny Rohl, they have one of the most promising coaches in Europe. Recently they’ve been involved in some cracking fixtures, with their last five across all competitions ending with both teams on the scoresheet. They scored in injury-time in the FA Cup to force Coventry to penalties but eventually lost, while their previous four results had included scorelines of 3-3, 3-1 and 4-2.
Defensively they can be exposed and I think Leeds will have a fun afternoon in front of goal if Rohl isn’t careful, but I will always back the Owls to score. Barry Bannan can pull the strings in midfield and while Josh Windass is their top scorer with 10, goals can come from all over the pitch. I think up against a Leeds side that conceded three goals in their last Championship encounter, they can find the net even in defeat.
The price of 21/10 looks good to me as we back Leeds to win this one and BTTS as our Football Bet of the Day.
