Football Bet of the Day: PSG heading for more success

There is some cracking Club World Cup action to look forward to on Sunday with PSG’s clash with Atletico Madrid the undoubted highlight. Elsewhere in the competition, Bayern Munich take on Auckland City, Palmeiras face Porto and Botafogo meet Seattle.

PSG vs Atletico Madrid Odds

PSG were crowned champions of Europe at the end of last month and the Parisians can get their Club World Cup campaign off to a winning start by beating Atletico Madrid.

Luis Enrique’s men were the outstanding team in the knockout phase of the Champions League and PSG still look to have scope for progression.

The Parisians got the better of Liverpool, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Inter on their way to lifting the European cup, and while Atletico were 2-1 winners when facing PSG in the league phase of the Champions League, Enrique’s men are a vastly improved team.

The 5-0 hammering of Inter in the Champions League final was a clear indication of how a young PSG squad has come together and there is bags of pace and energy in the Parisians' attacking play.

Atletico finished 12 points off champions Barcelona in La Liga this term and Los Colchoneros don’t appear to be a side moving forward.

Of course, Diego Simeone’s men were unfortunate to lose to Real Madrid in the Champions League, but Los Blancos hardly impressed when they were hammered 5-1 on aggregate by Arsenal.

Atletico have talent in their squad with Julian Alvarez the pick of their forwards, but there are issues at the back.

Clement Lenglet has suffered a hip injury and is a major doubt, while fellow centre-backs Jose Gimenez and Robin Le Normand were away on international duty until the early part of the week.

Simeone may opt to deploy 36-year-old Axel Witsel in the back line and it’s hard to see a PSG attack containing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue failing to have success against the Spanish defence.

PSG are likely to be without key forward Ousmane Dembele in California, but Goncalo Ramos is no bad replacement and PSG should have enough to get the better of Atletico in Pasadena.
