Football Bet of the Day: The stage is set at Wembley…
We may have four Premier League matches coming our way on Sunday, as well as a whole host of action from across the continent, but there’s a Wembley final taking place, and that has my focus for Sunday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Let’s jump right into it.
Football Bet of the Day - Sunday, April 13
- Birmingham to win and over 2.5 goals @ 11/10

Now my esteemed colleague Conor Keane will be at this final, and he is hoping to round off one of the greatest sporting weeks of his life by watching his beloved Birmingham City win a trophy, having already secured promotion back to the Championship in midweek.
The League 1 title could also be theirs on Saturday afternoon if Wrexham fail to win at Wigan, and 45,000 Blues are ready for a party down Wembley Way. They’ve had a miserable 13 years which culminated in relegation from the second tier, but with new owners and a sizeable injection of cash, they’ve been given new hope.
They are probably going to finish as the best team the third tier of English football has ever seen. In fact, they could break Reading’s EFL points record of 106 if they claim just 12 points from their final six league games. But that can all be parked to one side on Sunday.
In the final of the Vertu Trophy, they have a chance to lift silverware again. Up against Peterborough United, they will surely fancy their chances. They are the heavy favourites to win this game, priced at 4/9 to get the job done in 90 minutes and rightly so.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Birmingham have won 39 games in all comps
- Birmingham have beaten Peterborough home and away, with over 2.5 goals in both
- Blues' last six outings have ended with over 2.5 goals
Chris Davies’ men have won 39 games across all competitions this season, a new club record while they come into this final having won four games on the trot. Intriguingly, their last clash came against Posh away from home, and even though key stars such as Jay Stansfield were rested, they still came away with a 2-1 win.
Birmingham’s squad is one of Championship standard already and they should be able to roar past Peterborough again on Sunday, having beaten them home and away in the league. However, I also want to add over 2.5 goals to my final selection as Birmingham’s attack is simply too good to stop, and they’ve scored 73 league goals this term.
Birmingham vs Peterborough Odds
However, Posh have caused them some difficulties this season, scoring in both head-to-head matches. The game at St Andrew’s ended 3-2, and I can see another big scoreline here on this Wembley pitch. The recent stats back us up too. Birmingham’s last six outings have all ended in over 2.5 goals, Posh’s last five have also had three goals or more.
Up the Blues. Up the goals.
