Sunday’s action is plentiful, but the game that catches my eye comes from League 1 as Wycombe Wanderers host Charlton Athletic (18:30, Sky Sports Main Event) in the first leg of the play-off semi-final.

There’s a lot on the line, but I think we’ve found a decent price for a goalscorer. Check out our Football Bet of the Day below.

Charlton come into the play-offs having won four of their last five games and their second half of the season under Nathan Jones has been mightily impressive. In fact, since New Year’s Day they have been the second-best team in League 1, with only a rampant Birmingham City picking up more points than the 52 they have amassed in 2025.

I think the Addicks have a really good chance of winning what looks to be a strong renewal of the play-offs this time around, and I think they can get the better of a Wycombe side that has lost its last three games. Importantly, one of those defeats came at home to Charlton, as Jones saw his side run away with the game, winning 4-0 at Adams Park.

Three defeats on the spin isn’t how any team wants to come into the play-offs and after a topsy-turvy season that saw Matt Bloomfield leave the club when they were battling with Birmingham, it feels as though the wind has gone out of Wycombe sails. Mike Dodds is inexperienced in these situations in comparison to his opposite number and as a result I can see Charlton coming away with another decent win from this first leg.

Wycombe vs Charlton Odds

Football Bet of the Day Stats

  • Charlton have picked up the second-most point in League 1 in 2025
  • Wycombe have lost their last three games, including a 4-0 home defeat to Charlton
  • Matty Godden has scored four in his last four outings

I am surprised to see them priced up as outsiders to win here, so will take advantage of that, while we also have to back their main man to find the net. Matty Godden - affectionately known as ‘sniffer dog’ by his teammates due to his goalscoring instincts in the box - has been on fire ever since Jones trusted him to lead the line every week.

He is a Championship-level striker at his best and had proven himself to be a very effective weapon for Coventry at that level over the last few seasons. However, now 33, some would think his goalscoring talents are starting to wane. Charlton took the chance to sign him from the Sky Blues last summer and he has been sensational, especially over the second half of this season.

He’s now hit 18 goals this term in 41 appearances, but his goals-per-90 of 0.64 is only beaten by Louie Barry in the third tier this term. Godden has scored four goals in his last four games and eight in his last 10, so he’s heading into these play-offs on fire. One of those goals came in the 4-0 win over Wycombe, so let’s back him to get another here.

Form is so crucial in the play-offs, so let’s back both Charlton and Godden to keep up their hot streaks. The away side can land a crucial blow on Sunday on their way to Wembley.
