Football Bet of the Day: An enticing 8/1 Bet Builder from Portman Road
There is a huge clash towards the bottom of the Premier League on Saturday (15:00) as Ipswich Town host Wolverhampton Wanderers at Portman Road. The Tractor Boys are nine point behind the visitors, who are currently safe from relegation.
This match gives the hosts a chance to reduce the deficit on the Old Gold, while Wolves can give themselves extra security as we head into the final weeks of the season. It feels like there could be plenty of twists and turns in this game, so this is where my football bet of the day comes.
Football Bet of the Day - Saturday, April 5
- Bet Builder - Over 2.5 goals and Liam Delap & Jorgen Strand Larsen to score anytime @ 8/1
Odds correct at the time of publishing
Ipswich were able to break their nine game winless streak in the top flight as they defeated AFC Bournemouth in Dorset on Wednesday, with the Cherries now stuck in a rut of their own.
Nathan Broadhead and top scorer Liam Delap were the goalscorers to bring some welcome relief for Kieran McKenna's side, but they have another very important clash on Saturday as Wolves make the trip to IP1.
Vitor Pereira's men picked up a second consecutive victory when they beat West Ham United at Molineux on Tuesday. The Old Gold are now three games unbeaten in the Premier League but they cannot get complacent here as they currently stand between Ipswich and safety.
A victory for the Tractor Boys would reduce the deficit to six points with seven games left to play, whereas a triumph for Wolves would take them 12 points clear of relegation danger.
This feels like a huge match in the grand scheme of things, and as such I think this game could provide some entertainment.
Ipswich vs Wolves Stats
- Over 2.5 goals has struck in seven of Ipswich's 15 home PL games
- Liam Delap (IPS) has 12 goals in the Premier League
As such, we start off this Bet Builder with over 2.5 goals. This is a game that is important to both sides, so both lineups are expected to be strong. For that reason I think goals are worth backing here.
I did consider going for a result but this is a tough game to call, especially after Ipswich's big win in midweek. Goals feel a far safer bet in this contest and I think we will see at least three on Saturday.
Over 2.5 goals was a winning selection when the two teams met in the West Midlands back in December, which Ipswich won 2-1, while seven of the Tractor Boys' 15 home games in the PL this season have produced at least three goals - including each of their last three.
For Wolves, four of their past five away trips in the top flight have produced over 2.5 goals, so I think the evidence points towards a flurry in East Anglia on Saturday.
The Bet Builder is rounded off with two goalscorers, one for each team. Delap is of course my selection for Ipswich because he has bagged 12 in his first full season in the Premier League, and he has made a very good impression this term.
He was on the scoresheet on Wednesday to end a four-game wait for a goal, so his confidence levels have been raised ahead of this crunch clash with Wolves.
As for the Old Gold, they remain without the services of their main man Matheus Cunha as he serves the final match of his four-game suspension against Ipswich, so Jorgen Strand Larsen will continue to lead the line for Wolves.
He is the visiting player I have picked to score because he has found the net in back-to-back league games heading into this contest, with three goals recorded across the fixtures against Southampton and West Ham United.
The Norwegian's tally for the campaign now stands at 10 goals, which is only three shy of Cunha's total in the top flight. He has stepped up when his team have needed him in recent weeks and I think he can have another huge impact on Saturday.
