On Saturday, most Premier League teams will get their 2025 underway, while we’ve also got a whole host of EFL action to look forward to. It means we’ve got a lot to go at for our Football Bet of the Day on Saturday, January 4. I've taken a look at the early kick-off in the English top flight to try and find some value.

Football Bet of the Day - Saturday, January 4

  • Alexander Isak to score two or more vs Spurs @ 5/1

I loved watching Newcastle United tear Manchester United apart on Monday night. Apart from the meltdown from those in red, we saw a truly magnificent performance from the Magpies, as they came away with a 2-0 win. It was a scoreline that flatted the Red Devils in truth, as the away side could have been 4-0 up nil by half-time.

Eddie Howe’s men dominated the match, but it was the midfield battle where their individual talent shone. Sandro Tonali, Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton ran the show, while Alexander Isak was a constant thorn in the side of the back three. Harry Maguire, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt couldn’t handle the Swede, who is in sensational form.

Isak scored the opener at Old Trafford and is in the form of his life, so it makes for an exciting prospect as Newcastle travel down to face a Tottenham Hotspur side that has leaked goals all season long. That one kicks off at 12:30 on TNT Sports, and I think that Isak can make a big impression.

He has now scored eight goals in his last six matches in the Premier League, and 11 in his last 11. No striker is playing as well as the Swedish international is right now and it isn’t just his finishing ability that impressed me last time out. His all-round game was simply sensational at Old Trafford as he ran United ragged, with his pace and power causing all sorts of problems throughout the 90.

Nobody has been able to stop him in recent weeks, and I wouldn’t trust this Tottenham defence to keep any side out right now. Wolves scored two, Liverpool hit six, and even Man Utd scored three against them in the EFL Cup. Ange Postecoglou has serious issues at centre-back, with Radu Dragusin the only fit senior centre-back right now. Archie Gray was called upon to do a job against Wolves, and Isak will be licking his lips at the prospect of taking Spurs on.

I think Newcastle are going to win this game and score a lot of goals in the process. Spurs just don’t seem to be able to fix their defensive issues this term, and Ange Postecoglou can’t escape the criticism his side come in for on a regular basis. He seems too stubborn to change his ways, which makes Tottenham the most entertaining team in the league, but also very predictable.

That’s a great thing for us as we search for value, and when you have a man in form coming up against a dodgy defence, it makes perfect sense to jump on board. Isak is that man, and there’s an outside chance he could win the Golden Boot, as he is just five goals behind Mo Salah - on 12 for the campaign.

He just can’t stop scoring right now, and as a result, our Football Bet of the Day is Alexander Isak to score two or more v Spurs at odds of 5/1.
