Football Bet of the Day: Big price for anytime Championship scorer
Saturday’s football action is plentiful as we have an FA Cup semi-final to look forward to, the EFL enters its penultimate weekend and the Premier League is back in action.
As well as games from across Europe, we have plenty to choose from for our Football Bet of the Day, so read on to find out which game we’ve chosen to focus on.
Football Bet of the Day - Saturday, April 26
- Mustaphu Bundu to score anytime vs Preston @ 3/1
My attention is drawn to a crucial relegation clash between Preston North End and Plymouth Argyle. The Pilgrims currently sit bottom of the table but having looked dead and buried under Wayne Rooney, Miron Muslic has come in and given them hope of pulling off an improbable great escape.
The Pilgrims beat Coventry City on Easter Monday to take themselves onto 43 points and it feels as though their only hope of survival this term is to win the final two matches. Other results will have to go their way, but Plymouth have shown an improved level of performance in recent months.
The same can’t be said of Preston North End, who have been asleep for the second half of this season and now find themselves sinking towards the bottom three. They sit on 49 points so another couple of points would guarantee their survival, but one win in their last 13 league games speaks for itself.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Preston have conceded two goals in each of their last four fixtures
- Mustapha Bundu has scored three goals in his last two games
Paul Heckingbottom is struggling to get a tune out of them right now and although I won’t back Plymouth to come away with three points here, I think backing an in-form goalscorer is the way to go. Mustapha Bundu could have been sent off for a late and reckless challenge on Jamie Allen on Monday, but escaped with a yellow card.
That was a major talking point after the game as he went on to score two brilliant goals in a 3-1 win. Bundu has quickly become one of Plymouth’s most dangerous threats and alongside Muhamed Tijani and Ryan Hardie, he is part of a difficult front three to deal with. Argyle have won their last three home matches and the Sierra Leonean now has nine Championship goals to his name - not bad given he’s playing for the league’s bottom club.
Three goals in his last two appearances and five in his last eight make for good reading from a betting perspective, while Preston’s distinct lack of fight and quality make them easy prey. PNE have conceded two goals in their last four outings and seem to have lost their way with the season coming to an end.
As a result, I think Plymouth can trouble them at Deepdale, and Bundu offers wonderful value to find the net during the 90 minutes. At 3/1, that’s my Football Bet of the Day for Saturday, April 26.
