Saturday’s football action should be thrilling, and for our football bet of the day we are taking a look at one massive encounter at the foot of the Championship. It’s going to be a true relegation six-pointer at Hillsborough, as Sheffield Wednesday host Yorkshire rivals Rotherham.

Football Bet of the Day – Saturday 28th October

  • Rotherham United to beat Sheffield Wednesday to nil @ 11/2

Sheffield Wednesday have been absolutely abysmal this term. They are yet to win a league match in 13 attempts, having lost ten and drawn three so far. The decision to sack Xisco Munoz and replace him with Danny Rohl hasn’t yet seen an improvement in results, with the midweek 3-0 defeat to Plymouth the latest loss on their record.

The Owls have been pathetic in front of goal so far this season, scoring just five across those 13 league games. They haven’t scored in any of their last six fixtures and look completely out of their depth at this level. Their quality in front of goal is simply non-existent.

Sat rock-bottom of the league on just three points, it is somewhat baffling to think they could be odds-on favourites for any match this season, but as we head into the weekend, they are just 19/20 to beat Rotherham at home.

Now, Rotherham are not a good Championship side, and are certainly candidates to get relegated. However, the Millers have at least proven themselves to be competitive to some extent this term. They’ve now got nine points on the board having beaten Coventry City 2-0 during the week.

That win and clean sheet will give Matt Taylor’s men a huge boost heading into this crunch clash against a side with no such belief. Rotherham scored from a set-piece in midweek and managed to frustrate Coventry in open play. I believe they will use the same tactics away from home, and look to bag the first goal. If they manage to get their noses in front, the atmosphere at Hillsborough will become utterly toxic for the home side.

Without a goal in their last six games, I can see them failing to break down a stubborn Millers side who are desperate for all three points. If Wednesday can’t beat Rotherham at home, any remaining hope they currently have of staying up will surely evaporate.

This could be a horrendous afternoon for Sheffield Wednesday, and owner Dejphon Chansiri. The 3/1 on Rotherham to win the match seems generous on paper, and we can almost guarantee a low-scoring game, given the lack of attacking quality on show. As a result, backing the Millers to win to nil at the huge price of 11/2 is our football bet of the day, for Saturday 28th October.
