Football Bet of the Day: Leeds can put one foot in the Premier League

What a fixture that the Championship has for us on Monday night. Sheffield United, currently sitting in second place, host league leaders Leeds United. With just two points between them, the lead could change hands by the time the full-time whistle blows at Bramall Lane.

It’s a seismic clash for multiple reasons, with Burnley beginning to turn up the heat on these two with another comfortable victory this weekend. Below I’ve put together my Football Bet of the Day for Monday, which obviously focuses on this gargantuan game. Check it out.

Football Bet of the Day - Monday, February 24

  • Leeds United -1 handicap vs Sheffield United @ 13/5

I think this is the day that Leeds United secure the Championship title. Not mathematically of course, but the day they take a big leap forward towards that trophy. The win over Sunderland last weekend was absolutely massive, especially the manner in which they stole all three points in injury time and I think they will back it up with victory here.

They’ve won their last four Championship fixtures with an aggregate scoreline of 15-1, so that just shows the level of dominance they have over the rest of this division. Now, Sheffield United are no mugs and that is proven by their standing in the table. In fact, they would currently be level on points with Leeds had they not had those two points deducted at the start of the season.

The Blades have also won their last four matches since being hammered at home by Hull, and they have some elite players in their squad such as Gustavo Hamer, Callum O’Hare and Kieffer Moore. However, Hamer, Moore and Tom Cannon all missed the win over Luton and although Chris Wilder is expecting all three to be available, they may not be at their sharpest having missed a week of football.

Football Odds

Leeds may be without Manor Solomon for this one but they have such incredible strength in depth that they should be able to cope without him. In essence, that is what I believe will make the difference on Monday night. Although United have strengthened their squad in January, I don’t think they get near Leeds in terms of quality across the XI, and while Leeds have been blowing teams away, the Blades have had to grind things out.

That’s proven by the difference in goal difference. Daniel Farke’s side sit on a massive +48, double Sheffield United’s +24 after 33 games. Joel Piroe, Dan James, Brenden Aaronson and Largie Ramazani could cause chaos here, and I think Leeds’ midfield will be able to get the better of Sheffield United’s.

Sheffield United vs Leeds Odds

Leeds will want to improve their away form moving forward as it currently stands at W7, D7 L2. They’ve been far more dominant at Elland Road but I think the magnitude of this fixture will work in their favour and they will want to put a real marker down heading into the final part of the season. If they can extend their lead at the top to five points, and get back-to-back wins against two promotion rivals, they can begin to dream once again of the Premier League. I think they will get the job done in style at Bramall Lane, at a big price.
