Football Bet of the Day: Mirandes attempt to keep pressure on
We’ve got a belting game coming our way from Spain’s Segunda Division as the race for automatic promotion hots up. Cordoba host third-placed Mirandes as Los Rojillos look to close the gap on Levante in second.
This game, which kicks off at 19:30, takes our focus for Monday’s Football Bet of the Day.
Football Bet of the Day - Monday, May 19
- Mirandes to beat Cordoba and BTTS @ 4/1
Mirandes have been on fire of late and three wins in a row has taken them back towards the top two. Ahead of the weekend’s action, they sit just three points behind Elche, and five behind Levante, although the leaders have played a game more than Mirandes at the time of writing.
It really is a three-way tussle for those two automatic promotion places up to La Liga and Mirandes are having a miracle season. They finished 18th last term, only just avoiding the drop and don’t forget - this is a club that have never played in the top flight of Spain. Their best-ever finish is eighth at this level, and they are certain to beat that this time around with just three games to go, but can they get the job done on Monday night?
The disparity between their home and away form has been obvious this term. They’ve got the strongest home record having lost just once at home all year, while away from Anduva Municipal Stadium they’ve been middling to poor, losing 10 of 19 on the road. That gives them the 15th-best away record, and one or two more wins on the road would have seen them promoted already, but we are where we are.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Mirandes are pushing for automatic promotion to La Liga
- Both teams have scored in four of their last five games
- Both teams have also scored in four of the last five Cordoba fixtures
Despite those stats on paper, I’m going to back them to beat Cordoba away from home. Cordoba have only won eight from 19 at home this term, and sit ninth with nothing to play for. The home side have only won one of their last five matches and that came against a Cadiz outfit that had an early red card, yet still managed to score twice.
The form is contrasting, and I’m not going to be too concerned about Mirandes’ struggles on the road this season, given they have won their last three and beat Eibar 1-0 in their last away games. I am going to back both teams to score however based on their recent matches.
Cordoba have seen both teams score in 59% of their games this season and in four of their last five outings. Their last two matches have ended in a 4-2 victory and a 3-2 defeat, so I’ve got no doubt that they will produce the goods on Monday night. Meanwhile, Mirandes have also seen both teams score in four of their last five, so they are also finding the goals in recent weeks.
I’ll back the side with everything to play for to come out on top of an entertaining encounter on Monday night. The unlikely dream is still alive for Mirandes.
Odds correct at time of publishing.
