Football Bet of the Day: Atleti can hand out thrashing

We’ve got a Premier League clash between Bournemouth and Fulham, and a vital Championship fixture between Hull City and Coventry City to come our way on Monday night, but my Football Bet of the Day today comes from Spain.
Atletico Madrid are hosting bottom of the table Real Valladolid as they look to keep the pressure on the top-two, with the title still not completely out of the question. Read on to see what I’ve picked for this one.
Football Bet of the Day - Monday, April 14
- Atletico Madrid to win with -2 handicap @ 11/10

Atletico Madrid are still in with a shout of winning La Liga this term. It may seem like a big ask to close the seven-point gap on Barcelona, but unlike their rivals, they are no longer involved in the Champions League. That penalty-shootout defeat to Real Madrid was painful to say the least, but Atleti can now finish above their rivals in the league, closing the gap to just three points on Carlo Ancelotti’s men last time out.
Diego Simeone’s men bounced back from disappointment in that competition and the Copa del Rey semi-final to beat Sevilla 2-1 away from home last time out, and they should be able to follow that up with a convincing win at home against bottom of the table Real Vallodolid.
Paulo Pezzolano, having got Real Vallodolid up from the second tier last year was sacked back in November following a 5-0 hammering by Atleti, and I’m expecting something similar here. Owned by Brazilian legend Ronaldo, Alvaro Rubio is now in charge, but has been unable to turn around the club’s fortunes.
Football Bet of the Day Stats
- Atletico Madrid beat Real Valladolid 5-0 in the reverse fixture
- Valladolid have one point from their last 11 matches
They are simply dreadful, and have picked up just one point in their last 11 matches. That came at home to 10-man Las Palmas, but other than that, they have been well-beaten on several occasions. Last time out they lost 4-0 to Getafe and they will now be without Mario Martin as he was shown a straight red card in the defeat.
They’ve accumulated just 16 points this season, and four wins from 30 games is a paltry return. Away from home, their record is even worse. They’ve won once, and lost 14 of their 15 La Liga away games, scoring 11 and conceding 44 times in the process. They’ve already lost 5-0 to Atleti this season, while Athletic Club beat the 7-1 recently, and they also lost 7-0 to Barcelona and 3-0 to Real Madrid earlier in the campaign.
Atletico Madrid vs Real Valladolid Odds
They are not going to be able to compete with Atleti here, and the likes of Antoine Griezmann will be licking their lips ahead of this contest. Although I could have gone for a bigger home win, I’m going to play things relatively safe and back Atletico Madrid to beat Real Valladolid with a -2 handicap at odds of 11/10. Let’s bag ourselves a winner.
