The Carabao Cup returns in midweek and our Football Bet of the Day comes from Portman Road as Ipswich Town host Premier League Fulham, with kick-off at 19:45.

Football Bet of the Day - Wednesday 1st November

  • Ipswich Town to score over 2.5 goals against Fulham @ 5/1

Kieran McKenna’s Ipswich Town have picked up where they left off last season. They have only lost once in the Championship this term and are unbeaten in all competitions since the 26th August. There’s absolutely no doubt that this Ipswich team will be contenders for automatic promotion this term, and goals are so easy to come by for them.

They’ve now scored 29 in the league, the same number as a Leicester City side packed with Premier League talent. The step up from League One has been so easy for them, and with the likes of Conor Chaplin, Nathan Broadhead, Kayden Jackson and Freddie Ladapo all playing their part, there’s depth in attacking areas.

It’s all about fitting in with McKenna’s system, which means that even if they rotate individual players, the unit doesn’t suffer a drop off in quality. That means when we look at the cup competitions, it is easy to get behind the Tractor Boys. They have already beaten a Premier League outfit in Wolves at Portman Road, securing a 3-2 victory last month.

Now, Fulham lie in wait and despite Ipswich’s quality, they are 11/5 outsiders to win the game on home soil. Fulham are 23/20 to win, and even though they are in the top flight, they don’t look as strong as they were last campaign. They are currently 14th in the Premier League, and although they aren’t in danger of going down, the absence of Aleksandr Mitrovic is being felt in attacking areas.

Interestingly, backing Ipswich to score goals looks like the way to go for success on Wednesday night. After a 3-2 win over Plymouth at the weekend, they have now scored at least three goals in each of their last seven home matches. That is a simply remarkable run of form, and includes the 3-2 win over Wolves in the previous round.

As we can see, Ipswich go for the jugular on home soil, and simply don't know how else to play under McKenna. Up against a Fulham side which is nothing special, I believe this run of goalscoring form can continue. Over 2.5 Ipswich goals allows us to back something which is unaffected by the result of the game, even though we are expecting a home win. The price of 5/1 is generous, while I’d even be tempted to have a small wager on them going over 3.5 at 14/1

Ipswich are something special this season. This could be a Premier League fixture come this time next year.
