Football Bet of the Day: 21/20 pick for Bundesliga contest

The fourth round of Bundesliga matches get underway on Friday night as Stuttgart welcome St Pauli to the MHP Arena (19:30, live on BBC iPlayer).

Stuttgart vs St Pauli Odds

Having lost two of their first three Bundesliga games, this is Stuttgart's worst start to a season since 2022/23 – a campaign which ended with a woefully disappointing 16th-place finish.

Last weekend saw the hosts lead Freiburg for over an hour before conceding three goals in the final 12 minutes, and they'll be eager to secure a second win of the season here.

St Pauli have enjoyed a brilliant start to the new campaign, after narrowly avoiding relegation last term, and as mentioned in the introduction, head into Friday's contest unbeaten after three games.

Friday's visitors came from two goals down to secure a point against Borussia Dortmund on the opening day, before beating fierce rivals Hamburg and Augsburg to propel them to fourth place in the standings.

The hosts are underperforming which certainly makes Friday's contest intriguing. Even after losing striker Nick Woltemade to Newcastle United, Stuttgart have managed to score in both games since his departure, which suggests that they're likely to get on the scoresheet against St Pauli.

St Pauli have won their only away trip so far at newly-promoted Hamburg but the odds would suggest this is a much tougher assignment. Historically, Stuttgart hold the advantage in the head-to-head between the two sides, winning eight of the last 10 encounters.

However, our pick for this fixture is Double Chance - Draw or St Pauli. The visitors are in brilliant form, but we're not confident enough to back Alexander Blessin's side in terms of the match result at 18/5.

There'll be goals from both sides as that has been a winning pick in two of both team's three league matches so far, but with the hosts struggling defensively, backing Double Chance - Draw or St Pauli is a sensible play.
