Football Bet of the Day: Misery to continue for Tembetary

The Premier League returns on Friday night as the reigning champions Liverpool host AFC Bournemouth at Anfield, but we’ve already got that game well covered on Betfred Insights. 

For Friday Football Bet of the Day, in a bid to find some value, I’ve once again jetted off to South America to indulge in the Paraguayan Primera Division. 

The Paraguayan Clausura is now in full swing as we are seven games into the new season, and it means we can make a fairly solid judgement on how each team will fare in the current campaign. The two clubs that finished bottom of the Apertura meet on Friday night (20:00 BST), as Club Tembetary host Club 2 de Mayo at Complejo Tembetary.

Club 2 de Mayo only won two matches in the Apertura, but interestingly they drew 12 times, more than any other side in the league. It means they were competitive in most matches and perhaps unfortunate to finish as low as they actually did (11th). The only team they finished higher than were Tembetary on goal difference, but the difference in the Clausura between this duo is stark.

2 de Mayo have picked up eight points from their seven matches so far, winning two, drawing two and losing three. They recently pushed league leaders Cerro Porteno all the way, only losing 3-2 when they conceded in the 95th minute. They look once again like a competitive outfit, but the same cannot be said for Tembetary - who are having an absolute nightmare to date. 

They sit bottom of the league having failed to pick up a single point from seven matches. Their current record reads won zero, drawn zero and lost seven - while they have conceded a whopping 17 goals - which works out around 2.5 goals per game. They’ve only scored five goals as well, and it just seems like they are completely out of their depth this term. 

Today's Football Fixtures

I’m going to back that losing run to continue, with the basement club completely devoid of confidence right now. 2 de Mayo meanwhile are doing alright, but are coming out of the back of a tough run of fixtures in which they have performed well without reward. I think they will be able to stamp their mark on this game and be able to score a few goals on the road against this leaky defence.
