Ajax have parted ways with manager Maurice Steijn and will be looking to get a win in their first game under interim head coach John van't Schip when they host Volendam.

Ajax have had a nightmare season and currently sit bottom of the Eredivisie after losing five games in a row.

Now the Dutch giants take on fellow strugglers Volendam aiming to add to their tally of five points from eight games.

  • Ajax to win and both teams to score @ 6/5

Two seasons ago Ajax lifted the Eredivisie title, but after a third-place finish last term and having lost some of their star players, the Dutch side have struggled.

Edson Alvarez, Jurrien Timber, Mohammed Kudus and Calvin Bassey all left for the Premier League while veterans Davy Klassen and Dusan Tadic also departed.

Their replacements have not stepped up to the mark and the club have been in disarray, and have had one of the worst starts to a season in club history.

A win and two draws from the first three games was somewhat disappointing, but since then Ajax have lost to Twente, Feyenoord, AZ, Utrecht and PSV.

That run of results saw manager Maurice Steijn depart after four months in charge, replaced by interim head coach John van't Schip.

The new boss made 273 appearances for the club in his playing career and has served as interim boss before so fans will be hoping he can steady the ship.

Van't Schip couldn’t have asked for a much more gentle introduction to the role than by hosting strugglers Volendam.

The visitors stayed up narrowly last season and look set to be in the relegation dogfight again this time around, losing six of their opening nine games.

Matthias Kohler’s side have been in decent attacking form, netting 11 times in nine matches, but have struggled to keep out their opponents and both teams have found the net in five of their last six matches.

Both teams have also scored in the last six meetings between these two sides and considering the fact that Ajax have the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 21 times in eight games, it’s hard to see them keeping a clean sheet.

However, a fresh start under a new manager seems to be exactly what the hosts needed and they can celebrate the new beginning with a victory to put an end to one of the worst runs in the club’s history.

Take both teams to score in a long overdue Ajax win that could well prove to be the turning point in their campaign.
