Kilmarnock beat Dundee
We open at Dens Park, where Dundee hosts Kilmarnock in the top six from 12:30 GMT. There’s very little between the teams in terms of quality, but Kilmarnock has been much more consistent throughout the campaign, especially after the split.
The home team arrives on a poor run of form and will finish sixth in the Premiership. They suffered a 5-2 defeat at Ibrox on Tuesday night despite racing into a two-goal lead. The team aimed to finish in the top-six and achieved it, but not much has gone right for them since.
Kilmarnock brings the curtain down on the 2023/24 season with a fourth-placed finish, and that’s a great achievement for the club, who have European football to look forward to later this summer.
Manager Derek McInnes ensured his squad kept pushing hard to the finish line, and they impressed when beating St Mirren 1-0 in Paisley last weekend. Back the form team to get things off to a winning start at attractive odds.
Rangers beat Hearts
Rangers visit Tynecastle on Saturday afternoon with one eye on next weekend’s Old Firm Scottish Cup final at Hampden. Manager Philippe Clement watched on in horror as his stars struggled through the opening 45 minutes against Dundee in their final game of the season at Ibrox, conceding two goals in quick succession, just as they did at Celtic Park a few days previous.
The boss shook things up, giving several youth and fringe players a chance to shine, and they did, rallying to win 5-2.
Regardless of the score at Tynecastle on Saturday, Hearts will finish third in the Premiership behind the Old Firm. Steven Naismith’s men will aim to challenge again next season and will enjoy a place in the Europa League.
They enter in good form but have struggled against Gers this term, losing five times to the team from Ibrox. That poor run includes a 3-1 loss in the League Cup and a 1-0 reverse in the Premiership. It’ll be interesting to see how strong a squad both managers play, but we’re happy to stick with the stats.
Aberdeen beat Ross County
Our third and final pick of the weekend comes from the bottom six on Sunday from 15:00 when Aberdeen stop by Dingwall to face Ross County. Regular readers of our Scottish Premiership accumulator articles know we’ve backed Aberdeen to good effect in the later rounds of the campaign, and the pressure remains on the Dons squad to fight to the finish.
Many in the away dressing room are playing for their futures at the club ahead of an important summer, and Aberdeen is good enough to end on a high.
Ross County boosted their chances of avoiding relegation to the Championship with recent wins over Rangers and Hibs, but they’ve lacked consistency this season and suffered a humiliating 5-1 home defeat to Motherwell last Saturday.
Back Aberdeen to heap misery on the home fans by inflicting yet another defeat. County is good going forward but can’t be trusted in defence.
