Match Result - Kashima Antlers (H) to beat Avispa Fukuoka (11:00 BST) @ 5/6
The last 16 of the Emperor's Cup in Japan kicks off on Wednesday, with J1 League title hopefuls Kashima Antlers in action against Avispa Fukuoka at their Kashima Soccer Stadium.
Kashima are riding high in the league, just two points behind leaders and two-time defending champions Vissel Kobe, despite a four-game wobble across June and July that saw them pick up just a single point from four games.
The Antlers got back on track with a 2-1 victory over V-Varen Nagasaki in the Emperor's Cup round of 32 on July 16, and four days later, beat Kashiwa Reysol 3-2 to overtake their title rivals in second place.
Next up for Toru Oniki's side is a cup tie against Avispa, who are 11th in the 20-team J1 League, 12 points behind Wednesday's hosts.
Kim Myung-hwi's charges are unbeaten in their last seven games, and haven't been beaten in regulation time since May 24, but they've also failed to win any of their last four matches, drawing their last three in the league and only beating third-tier outfit Giravanz Kitakyushu on penalties in the Emperor's Cup round of 32 after a goalless stalemate.
Avispa have blanked in three of their last four contests and now come up against a side whose defence they have failed to breach in their last two head-to-heads.
Kashima and Avispa played out a 0-0 draw at the Kashima Soccer Stadium last October, and in the first league meeting of this year, in Fukuoka on May 6, the Antlers triumphed 1-0.
Avispa have won just two of their last nine away matches, while Kashima, who boast the J1 League's best home record, accruing 29 points from 13 games, have won seven of their last nine in all competitions at the Kashima Soccer Stadium, so I'm inclined to back the hosts here.
Both Teams to Score - Yes in FC Basel vs Young Boys (19:30 BST) @ 4/11
Two rounds of fixtures have already been played in this season's Swiss Super League, which started back up on July 25. Reigning champions Basel began their defence of the title with a 2-1 defeat at St. Gallen, but reversed the scoreline at home to Grasshoppers last time out.
Young Boys, who had won six of the previous seven league titles before Basel claimed the crown last season, are unbeaten after their first two games, beating Servette 3-1 at home before playing out a 1-1 draw at Winterthur.
Both teams to score has landed in 11 of the 12 Super League matches played so far this term, with only Lugano failing to fire in a 4-0 loss at Sion last Sunday.
In 2024/25, four clubs, including Basel and Young Boys, saw 61% (23) of their 38 league games finish with both teams scoring, and BTTS-Yes came in for the final three head-to-heads between the aforementioned sides, who meet at St. Jakob-Park on Wednesday.

To Win to Nil - HNK Rijeka (H) to Win to Nil vs Shelbourne FC (19:45 BST) @ 8/11
Rijeka and Shelbourne both suffered exits in the Uefa Champions League qualifying rounds last month, losing to Ludogorets and Qarabag, respectively. The pair have now dropped down to the third round of Uefa Europa League qualifying, where they have been drawn against each other.
The first leg takes place at the Stadion HNK Rijeka on Wednesday, and the Croatians are heavy favourites (1/5) to triumph on home soil.
Certainly, I expect Rijeka to take a lead to Dublin next week, and I believe they can keep a clean sheet in front of their own fans.
The reigning HNL champions were only ousted from the Champions League by Ludogorets after extra time, drawing 0-0 at home before a 1-1 second-leg stalemate in regulation time, with the Bulgarians going on to score twice to avoid a penalty shootout in Razgrad.
Shelbourne, meanwhile, were well beaten over two legs by Qarabag, suffering a 3-0 home defeat before losing 1-0 to the Azerbaijan club in Baku. Last season's League of Ireland Premier Division winners saw head coach Damien Duff depart in June, and while they remain unbeaten in the league since, it's a big step up for them in Europe, and they will do well to trouble Rijeka on Wednesday, so I'm backing a home win to nil.
Match Result - Sao Paulo (A) to beat Athletico Paranaense (23:30 BST) @ 13/8
Sao Paulo won the first leg of their Copa do Brasil last-16 tie with Athletico Paranaense 2-1 at the Estadio Do MorumBIS last week, with the return fixture taking place at the Ligga Arena in Curitiba on Wednesday.
Hernan Crespo's side racked up a fifth consecutive victory on Monday, beating Internacional 2-1 in Porto Alegre, and they kept a clean sheet in the first three of those.
Athletico-PR, meanwhile, are now six games without a win (L3, D3), and on Monday, were held at home (1-1) by lowly Serie B side Paysandu, who are only a point ahead of bottom club Amazonas.
Furucao's home record in the second tier has been a concern this term, with only four teams picking up fewer points than their tally of 15 at the Ligga Arena. They haven't won at home since June 14, losing their next two in Curitiba by a 1-0 scoreline before playing out a couple of 1-1 draws there.
Sao Paulo don't need to win on Wednesday, so we're unlikely to see them applying too much pressure from the off, but they will be keen to bury this tie as quickly as possible, so expect the visitors to break quickly on the counter when the opportunity arises. Their firepower should prove too much for Athletico, who are six games without a clean sheet.
