Forest Green Rovers (A) to beat Morecambe

I’ve gone for two away selections in the National League on Tuesday, starting with Robbie Savage’s Forest Green Rovers, who have made a bright start to life in the league this season. They’ve won four and drawn two during their unbeaten start, which sees them sit second after six games.

Next up, they travel to Morecambe, and first of all we have to say what a delight it is to be writing about them as a footballing prospect once again. For a long period of time it looked like they may not compete this term, but it’s great that the takeover has finally gone through after a summer of struggle.

They are still playing catch-up in terms of the playing squad while new manager Ashvir Singh Johal is also finding his feet. FGR should have no trouble getting another win on the board here, given Morecambe have lost their last two games 4-0 and 2-0.

Football Odds

Southend United (A) to beat Wealdstone

Southend United are unbeaten at the start of this National League campaign as they strive to earn a place back in the Football League. Long-serving manager Kevin Maher is trying to navigate a difficult league this season, but they should be able to overcome Wealdstone away from home.

Wealdstone won their first three games of the season but have since lost three in a row to drop down the table. Carlisle United, Boston and Rochdale have all taken three points against them as they struggle to recapture that early-season form. I’m expecting another defeat on Tuesday night against strong opposition.

Plymouth Argyle (H) to beat Cheltenham Town

Now we turn our attention to the EFL Trophy where Plymouth Argyle will look to get back to winning ways after a turbulent start under Tom Cleverley. The Pilgrims were fancied after dropping down from the Championship last term, but it’s been a difficult summer, and they’ve picked up just one win from six matches - losing the rest.

They were hammered 4-0 by table-topping Cardiff at the weekend, but the fixture gods have been kind to them in the EFL trophy. They host a Cheltenham Town outfit that sit bottom of the Football League, with just one point from six matches so far. They’ve only scored two goals, and even with Plymouth’s struggles, they should be able to find a home win. If Cleverley can’t - he could be in big trouble.

Gillingham (H) to beat Fulham U21s

I don’t rate the U21 teams very highly at all, and they often struggle to make an impact in this competition. Fulham U21s are no different, and I expect them to lose as they travel to Gillingham, with Gareth Ainsworth’s men currently sitting pretty at the top of League 2.

They haven’t lost yet, with four wins and two draws so far, and they should be able to easily beat a bunch of Premier League kids. No dramas on Tuesday night for the Gills.
