Bologna to beat Genoa @ 1/2
Serie A’s title race comes to an exciting close on Friday night, but most of the rest of the league have to wait until Sunday to complete their campaigns. Bologna have already made this season a historic one as they ended their 51-year trophy drought by beating AC Milan in the Coppa Italia final.
In turn, that has booked them a place in next season’s Europa League, and their current eighth-place standing in the league is frankly irrelevant. Having said that, they will want to end the season with a big celebration in front of their own fans, and Genoa should provide relatively simple opposition to beat.
Genoa sit 13th having failed to win any of their last six outings. Admittedly they’ve faced some of the league’s top teams during that time, but I believe they just want the season to come to an end. Bologna can go out with a bang on Saturday.
Arminia Bielefield or Draw vs Stuttgart @ 13/8
The DFB-Pokal final should be a cracking watch as Arminia Bielefield look to create history. If they can win this, they will become the first team from outside the top-two tiers in Germany to win the German Cup, and in the process, complete one of the great footballing underdog stories of our time.
They’ve already beaten four Bundesliga teams to get to this stage, including getting past holders Bayer Leverkusen in the semi-final so they won’t fear taking on Stuttgart, who sit ninth in the top flight. They’ve won their last three games, but Arminia are unbeaten in 13, so I think I’m happy to back them to at least take this game to extra time. It’s the year of the underdog!
Barcelona Women to beat Arsenal Women @ 1/4
The Women’s Champions League final kicks off in Lisbon at 17:00 and Barcelona are the heavy favourites to get the job done. Now, Arsenal deserve massive credit for knocking out Real Madrid and Lyon to get to this final, and they have a chance to make a game of it.
But come on, this is Barcelona. They’ve proven themselves to be the truly dominant force of women’s football in recent years and if they win this final, they will make it three Champions League titles in a row. This is their fifth consecutive final appearance, while they recently celebrated their 10th consecutive Liga F title. The best team in the world shouldn’t have any issues getting the job done.
Rayo Vallecano to beat Mallorca @ 8/15
La Liga also wraps up this weekend, with Rayo Vallecano looking to secure a spot in Europe next term. They currently sit eighth, which would see them qualify for the Conference League, however they can also finish seventh or ninth. This three-way battle between themselves, Celta Vigo and Osasuna will see one club in the Europa League, one in the Conference League and one left with no European football at all.
So this game really matters. If they can beat Mallorca on the final day, they will secure European football, based on the fact that they have a better head-to-head record than Osasuna. They've won three of their last four and as a result, I think they can get the job done against a Mallorca outfit that has only one win in their last six games.
