Rangers beat Motherwell

Rangers play their first ‘home’ game at Hampden as they await the completion of renovation work at Ibrox. Philippe Clement’s team drew 0-0 with Hearts at Tynecastle last weekend despite both teams having chances to break the deadlock and win the game.

Gers were slightly more ruthless in attack on Tuesday when drawing 1-1 with Dynamo Kyiv in a UEFA Champions League qualifier. Cyriel Dessers scored with the last kick of the game to ensure the teams are finely balanced ahead of the second leg in Glasgow.

Motherwell travel to the national stadium having matched the efforts of their hosts last Saturday. The Steelmen opened with a point at Fir Park against Ross County following a tense 0-0 finish. Well had more attempts and enjoyed the best chance of the game but failed to make it count.

Manager Stuart Kettlewell will want to see another strong performance from his defence, but they face a Gers side growing in confidence, and we’re backing the locals.

Hearts beat Dundee

Moving onto our second pick from Saturday’s fourfold and the first away win as we take Hearts to beat Dundee at Dens Park. The visitors held their own against Rangers at Tynecastle on the opening day of the new campaign and felt they were unlucky to take just a point when they had chances to collect all three.

Hearts impressed in defence and attack and anywhere near a repeat performance will surely be enough to sink Dundee. They have the quality to hurt their hosts and move onto four points from a possible six.

Dundee played their part in a thrilling four-goal draw across the street at Tannadice last Sunday. They twice fell behind in the derby but battled back to secure a share of the spoils, and it’s obvious the home team will require plenty more of that fighting spirit to deny the Jambos. Back Hearts to win and move up the table.

Ross County beat Dundee Utd

Ross County narrowly avoided relegation to the Championship last season, while Dundee United were promoted after winning the second tier. There’s not much between these sides on paper, and we’re expecting a competitive 90 minutes, but believe home advantage will make all the difference and help County grab their first win of the season. They’ll need to be at their best, but Dingwall is a difficult place to visit.

Dundee United marked their return to the Premiership with a highly entertaining home draw with Dundee in Sunday’s derby.

Jim Goodwin’s side will prove a worthy addition, but the trip to Victoria Park could come too early in the season. If Ross County can remain tight at the back, they’ll have a great chance of giving their fans something to cheer. The winner of this match will be the team that takes their chances.

Morton beat Hamilton

Dropping down a level for one pick from the Scottish Championship and we stop by Cappielow Park in Greenock to support Morton in their home game against Hamilton.

We were wrong to oppose Dougie Imrie’s Ton last week when they earned a goalless draw in Glasgow against Partick Thistle. Morton remain a work in progress, but they should have enough talent and drive to defeat an Accies side stuck under a dark cloud.

The visitors arrive at Sinclair Street with mounting off-field problems, and that must’ve been a factor when they slipped to defeat on matchday one. Hamilton opened the season with a 2-0 home defeat to Ayr United, which offers encouragement to Morton fans. Add the blue and white hoops to your Saturday fourfold.
