Club World Cup Team Betting Predictions: Flamengo

Flamengo are one of four Brazilian participants at the 2025 Club World Cup in the USA, and they might just be their country's most likely hope of reaching the latter stages of the tournament.
Below are my Flamengo Fifa Club World Cup 2025 predictions, where I rate their chances of winning the competition and pick out a player to watch.
Club World Cup Team Betting Predictions - Flamengo
Group D: Chelsea, Flamengo, Esperance Sportive de Tunis, Los Angeles
Fixtures: Flamengo vs Esperance Sportive de Tunis (02:00 BST, June 17), Flamengo vs Chelsea (19:00 BST, June 20), Los Angeles vs Flamengo (20:00 BST, June 25)
Player to watch: Pedro
Flamengo were handed a spot at this year's Club World Cup on account of their success at the 2022 Copa Libertadores, but they suffered a shocking quarter-final exit from that competition last year, losing 1-0 on aggregate to Uruguayan outfit Penarol, and they've not win a league title since 2020, finishing third in the 2024 Serie A, nine points behind champions Botafogo.
The Rubro-Negro have enjoyed their first five months of 2025, though, winning the Supercopa do Brasil and Taca Guanabara and finishing second in their Copa Libertadores group to advance to the knockouts. At the time of writing, they're also top of Serie A, having lost just one of their first 11 league fixtures.
Flamengo haven't tasted defeat since May 4, winning their last four games ahead of their trip stateside.
Former defender Filipe Luis, who had a distinguished career in Europe, starring for Atletico Madrid and spending a season at Chelsea, was appointed as head coach last September following the dismissal of Tite, and after 46 games in charge, he boasts a 67% win record to go alongside his three trophies (Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil and Campeonato Carioca).
The 39-year-old has established himself as a popular man in the dugout, but while his achievements so far shouldn't be downplayed, it's fair to say he's got one of, if not the best, squads in Brazil.
Former Brazil teammates, Alex Sandro and Danilo, provide plenty of experience in defence, supporting current Selecao centre-back Leo Ortiz, and in midfield, there are more internationals, including Gerson (Brazil) and Giorgian de Arrascaeta (Uruguay).
In attack, Flamengo house the considerable talents of Luiz Araujo, Gonzalo Plata and Pedro, among others. It's no surprise to see the Rio club seven goals ahead of any of their Serie A rivals this season, with 24 struck in just 11 games.
They've been as solid as a rock at the back, too, conceding just four times and keeping eight clean sheets, so the signs are positive heading to the Club World Cup.

Player to watch: Pedro
Former Fluminense and Fiorentina forward Pedro scored 30 goals in 43 club appearances last year before suffering an ACL injury on international duty with Brazil in September. The 27-year-old was subsequently ruled out for nine to 12 months, but returned ahead of schedule in April, appearing as a late substitute in Flamengo's 2-1 Copa Libertadores defeat to Central Cordoba.
In his next outing, as a 58th-minute replacement for De Arrascaeta, Pedro scored his side's final two goals in a 6-0 routing of Juventude at the Maracana, and he went on to bag another brace later in the month in a 4-0 victory over Corinthians, which was his first game as a starter post-ACL injury.
Pedro has only found the net once in his last nine appearances heading into this month's Club World Cup, but only five of those have been as a starter, and he'll just be glad to have built up some match fitness ahead of the tournament stateside.
The likes of Gerson and De Arrascaeta will be crucial for Flamengo at the tournament, particularly the latter, who has scored nine goals in as many Serie A games this season, but a fit and firing Pedro could prove to be the real difference maker.

Prediction: Reach the Quarter-Finals @ 2/1
Chelsea will expect to top Group D, while Esperance Sportive de Tunis are likely to finish bottom, leaving Los Angeles and Flamengo to tussle it out for second place, which would set up a last-16 tie with the winners of Group C, which may well be Bayern Munich.
I'm confident Flamengo can push past the Americans to reach the knockout phase, and should the German giants lie in wait, I'm predicting a potential suckerpunch for Vincent Kompany's side, with the Rubro-Negro capable of causing them problems.
