Sweden vs Slovenia Prediction: Stalemate looks the sensible play

Sweden and Slovenia have nothing to play for in their Uefa World Cup qualifier on Tuesday (19:45 GMT), with both teams having very forgettable campaigns. Neither team has managed a single win in Group B and both will be desperate to put this all behind them.
Read on for my Sweden vs Slovenia predictions, as well as the latest team news and match odds.

Team News
Liverpool's record signing Alexander Isak started Saturday's 4-1 defeat against Switzerland on the bench after recently overcoming a groin issue. We could see him start on Tuesday, potentially alongside Benjamin Nygren, as Viktor Gyokeres missed this camp with a hamstring injury.
Emil Forsberg could come into the midfield alongside Anthony Elanga, Yasin Ayari and Alexander Bernhardsson, while boss Graham Potter may decide to put Emil Holm in defence, potentially at the expense of Gabriel Gudmundsson.
Petar Stojanovic won't be available for Slovenia after being sent off for two yellow card offences in the defeat to Kosovo last time out.
There could be several changes to the visitors' team after their flat performance on Saturday, so the likes of Benjamin Verbic, Dejan Petrovic and Nejc Grandisar could be handed an opportunity to impress against Sweden.
Sweden vs Slovenia Predicted Lineups
- Sweden: Johansson; Gudmundsson, Lagerbielke, Hien, Svensson; Bernhardsson, Forsberg, Ayari, Elanga; Nygren, Isak
- Slovenia: Oblak; Brekalo, Bijol, Drkusic; Karnicnik, Petrovic, Elsnik, Janza; Verbic; Gradisar, Vipotnik
Neither team has won during this qualifying campaign and Sweden are 8/15 to win this clash, and it is 11/2 for Slovenia to come away with the victory.
The visitors have played out three draws, while the shares have been spoiled in one of Sweden's fixtures in Group B, which did come against Tuesday's opponents. The stalemate is valued at 3/1, which has an implied probability of 25%.
Both teams were on the scoresheet in the reverse fixture back in September, and BTTS - Yes is on offer at 11/10 on this occasion.
Sweden vs Slovenia Stats
- The reverse fixture was a 2-2 draw in September
- Slovenia have drawn three games in qualifying
Match Result - Draw @ 3/1
I can't imagine there will be many eyes on this game from the two competing nations, let alone neutrals. They have both been very underwhelming in this group and in terms of attacking output, their numbers have been dreadful.
They have managed five goals between them and with this contest being a dead rubber, I doubt either of them will be itching to improve their tallies on Tuesday.
Both sets of players are probably just desperate to bring this dismal campaign to an end so I think there is going to be very little motivation from those out on the field in Stockholm.
The safe play looks to be backing a draw. This was the outcome between the two sides when they were both in happier spirits. Four goals were scored on that occasion, and given how poor they have been in the final third since, I doubt they will get anywhere near that scoreline.

Under 2.5 Goals @ 8/11
Given how ineffective both teams have been in front of goal, I think goals will be hard to come by in this encounter and I think under 2.5 goals is worth covering.
Each of Slovenia's last three qualifiers have featured fewer than three goals, which included two goalless stalemates with Kosovo and Switzerland last month. Their defeat at the hands of Kosovo last time out ended 2-0.
For Sweden, under 2.5 goals has been a successful bet in three of their past four matches and so I am confident that this will be a low-scoring contest - especially as there is going to be nothing to play for on both sides.
