Slovakia vs Luxembourg Prediction: Only a win will do for Slovakia

Slovakia are involved in a fascinating three-way battle for the top two spots in Group A and they cannot afford to slip up when bottom side Luxembourg visit on Monday (7.45pm kick off).
Slovakia won their opening two games, claiming a famous win over Germany, but Friday’s defeat in Northern Ireland has put a dent in their bid to reach World Cup 2026.
The hosts, Germany and Northern Ireland are all locked on six points but Slovakia sit in third spot due to an inferior goal difference. Luxembourg have lost all three of their games and are in danger of ending up with no points for the first time since qualifying for the World Cup in 2006.

Team News
Slovakia boss Francesco Calzona may be tempted to make a few changes to his side after the defeat in Belfast. Tomas Rigo and Lukas Haraslin both featured from the bench against Northern Ireland and may come into the starting side on Monday.
Luxembourg defender Dirk Carlson was sent off in the first half in their 4-0 loss to Germany on Friday and is now suspended for Monday’s game.
Ukraine vs Azerbaijan Predicted Line-ups
- Ukraine - Trubin; Konoplya, Zabarnyi, Matviienko, Myklolenko; Gutsulyak, Kalliuzhnyi, Shaparenko, Malinovskyi, Sudakov; Vanat
- Azerbaijan - Mahammadaliyev; Aliyev, Babalov, Mustafazada, Krivotsyuk, Cafarquliyev; Bayramov, Khaybulaev, Mahmudov, Ahmadzada; Emreli
Slovakia are the clear favourites to win at 1/3, a draw is 4/1 and the visitors are 9/1 to pull off a shock win.
Luxembourg have scored just one goal in three qualifiers and have failed to score in four of their last five games overall. A goal for the away side, therefore, seems unlikely and both teams to score is 11/8, while both teams to score - no is a 4/7 chance.
Slovakia -1 handicap @ 19/20
Slovakia won 1-0 at the Stade de Luxembourg in the reverse fixture and in truth they were lucky to come away with all three points, as Luxembourg had nearly twice as many attempts in total and had four shots on target compared to Slovakia’s two.
However, with home advantage the Falcons should be able to dominate and backing the home side to cover a -1 handicap looks a solid option.
Luxembourg have failed to score in four of their last five games so Slovakia may only need two goals to make this selection a winner.
Slovakia are unbeaten in six at home (W3, D3) and they’ve scored at least two goals in three of those games, while Luxembourg have five defeats in their last six games and three of those losses have come by two or more goals.

David Strelec to score anytime @ 11/10
None of Slovakia’s forwards impressed in Belfast but David Strelec should keep his starting spot and may find Luxembourg’s defence easier to handle than Northern Ireland’s.
The Middlesbrough forward scored in the win over Germany and has scored in each of his last four appearances in competitive home games for Slovakia. He can keep that streak going with an anytime effort on Monday.
