Fifa world cup 1 scaled

Five games, five wins for Austria in their Uefa World Cup qualifying campaign. Ralf Rangnick's side recorded a 10-0 thrashing against San Marino on Thursday, with forward Marko Arnautovic cementing himself as Das Team's all-time top goalscorer with four goals in that fixture.

Austria head to Romania on Sunday (19:45 BST), with the hosts unbeaten in their past two qualifiers. Read on for my Romania vs Austria predictions, accompanied by the latest team news and match odds.

Team News

Romania centre-backs Mihai Popescu and Andrei Burca's places in the lineup look to be guaranteed, while Marius Marin is set to anchor midfield on Sunday night.

Dennis Man and Alexandru Dobre are likely to be tasked with aiding striker David Miculescu from the wings.

The hosts have no fresh injury concerns heading into this contest.

Football Odds

Following his historic four-goal display last time out, Arnautovic is once again expected to spearhead Austria's forward line. Support may be provided in the form of Marcel Sabitzer, Michael Gregoritsch and Romano Schmid.

Konrad Laimer offers useful versatility to boss Rangnick as he is comfortable playing in midfield and at right-back, having featured in both positions for his country. He mostly plays on the right side of defence for his club Bayern Munich.

David Alaba is still a key cog in Das Team, and he is set to feature in the heart of defence again.

Romania vs Austria Predicted Line-ups

  • Romania - Radu; Ratiu, Popescu, Burca, Oprut; R Marin, M Marin, Screciu; Man, Dragus, Dobre
  • Austria - Pentz; Posch, Danso, Alaba, Prass; Laimer, Seiwald; Schmid, Gregoritsch, Sabitzer; Arnautovic

Today's Football Fixtures

Romania vs Austria Odds

Romania are 18/5 to come out on top here and they have won one of their two home qualifiers so far. They were held to a 2-2 draw against Cyprus last time out and the stalemate here is valued at 11/4.

Austria have won all five qualifiers and they are 8/11 (implied probability of 57.9%) to make it six in a row on Sunday.

Arnautovic netted four goals last time out and he is 8/1 to score at least two against Romania.

Romania vs Austria Stats

  • Austria have won all five qualifiers to date
  • Over 2.5 goals has struck in four of them
  • Marko Arnautovic (AUT) scored four goals last time out

Austria and over 2.5 goals @ 13/8

Austria are unquestionably the best side in Group H and their quality has really shone through in recent matches. Rangnick has made them resilient defensively and now they are starting to pose a great threat in attack.

Romania have a lot of work to do if they are to catch the visitors, who are eight points ahead of them right now. The hosts will try to use their two-game unbeaten streak to try and bring an end to Austria's winning run, but it seems like that will be too difficult to pull off.

Das Team have a lot of momentum behind them and they are at the point now where their place at next summer's World Cup finals is in sight. I think their quality will shine through again and I do think we will see them claim their sixth qualifying victory.

I've boosted the odds by adding over 2.5 goals because it has been a winning selection in four of their five triumphs to date, including the reverse meeting with Romania back in June.

Marko Arnautovic anytime goalscorer @ 13/10

Arnautovic is probably still going to be on cloud nine after becoming his country's all-time top scorer on Thursday, adding this accolade to the one he has already collected for most appearances for Austria.

The veteran attacker will be hoping that there are still more goals to come for him in whatever time he has left playing at this high level. The 36-year-old is still showing what he has to offer and Romania will be wary of the threat he will pose to them on Sunday.

Arnautovic bagged four goals last time out and his tally in qualifying now stands at six. I predict he will be hungry for more before this campaign comes to an end. I think he is good value to find the net in Bucharest at 13/10.
