Norway vs Senegal Bet Builder Tips: 17/1 includes another Haaland goal

Norway and Erling Haaland got their World Cup off to a flyer with a 4-1 win over Iraq, as the Manchester City man bagged two. Their next test will be far tougher as they face AFCON finalist Senegal in New Jersey (Monday 8pm local, Tuesday 1am BST, ITV1).

This World Cup, with three teams qualifying from eight of the 12 groups, could see some rather strange second-round games. We saw with Mexico vs South Korea how tepid the tempo was after both sides won their opener, and both Norway and Senegal know that a point here would likely see them through to knockouts, presuming Senegal beat minnows Iraq next time out. 

France will probably win the group, Iraq will finish bottom, and so I see both of these two being relatively satisfied with a draw as they target that all important tally of four points. I believe this will be an intriguing watch between two sides that seem relatively evenly-matched. 

Senegal did reasonably well against France for an hour, and have a wonderful amount of talent in their squad. Overall, they are probably better than Norway, but the Norwegians have the X factor of Erling Haaland at their disposal. He can level any playing field, and I think the most likely match result is a draw - which would boost both nation’s chances of progressing to the knockouts.

Inevitable. Haaland made his World Cup bow with a brace against Iraq and he remains arguably the most dangerous striker on the planet - even if he doesn’t put himself as number one right now.

“I would say I’m up there, I don’t think I scored the most goals this season,” Haaland told BBC Sport when asked if he was the best striker in the world. “So, statistically no, I’m not. Harry Kane and [Kylian] Mbappe scored more goals than me, so I’m not.” 

Thirty-eight goals in 52 for Manchester City this season was decent, but he was a beast against Iraq, having the most touches (seven) in the opposition box and the most shots (five) on his way to a brace. I think he will find the net again, especially given Senegal did struggle to deal with direct and pacy runs through their back line against France.

I’m sorry Mr Jackson, but I am for real. You’ve been making fouls pretty consistently, averaging 1.35 fouls per 90 in the Bundesliga, and I think he will once again be at the centre of the action. He made two fouls in Senegal’s opening game against France, and in a more even contest, I expect him to hit that number at a minimum once more.
