Team News

Ivory Coast

Ivory Coast boss Emerse Fae was without Wilfried Singo against Curacao, and the hamstring issue he picked up looks to have sidelined him for this knockout tie. Strasbourg's Guela Doue should keep his place again in Singo’s absence.

Nottingham Forest’s Ibrahim Sangare will partner captain Franck Kessie in midfield once more, with an exciting three in front of them. Nicolas Pepe scored twice against Curacao, so may edge out Amad Diallo to the right wing spot, while Yan Diomande is the star on the left.

Up top, Inter Milan’s Ange-Yoan Bonny continues his hunt for a first international goal, while Elye Wahi will likely be used as an impact sub. Sporting’s Ousmane Diomande and Atalanta’s Odilon Kossounou should continue their centre-back partnership.

Norway

Norway head coach Stale Solbakken made the decision to rest almost his entire starting XI vs France, with stars such as Erling Haaland, Martin Odegaard and Antonio Nusa all left on the bench. That 4-1 defeat showed they were preparing for this tie instead, with the first XI set to be called upon once again.

However they are set to be without Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Ryerson once again at right-back after he went off in the win over Senegal and missed the defeat to France with a thigh injury.

Fredrik Aursnes moved back from midfield to fill in for Ryerson against France and it's likely the Benfica man will do the same thing for this knockout tie. Torino's Marcus Pedersen, who came on for Ryerson against Senegal and scored the opening goal, is another option at right back.

Haaland is looking to add to his four goals in two matches in this tournament, while Fulham’s Oscar Bobb is set to be used as an option from the bench.

Ivory Coast vs Norway Key Players:

Key Player - Yan Diomande (Ivory Coast)

It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of a player with plenty of transfer speculation around them, but 19-year-old Yan Diomande looks to be the real deal.

He could have a massive say in how this tie finishes given he will be up against Norway’s second-choice right back and France tore a much-changed defence apart at will. I think Diomade’s performance will go a long way in taking Ivory Coast through... Or not.

Key Player - Erling Haaland (Norway)

Obviously. Haaland was rested against France and I think that decision could pay off in style here. He will be licking his lips at the prospect of playing in his first World Cup knockout game, having scored twice in four fixtures in North America.

In truth, Haaland will probably be the one to decide this tie.
