Ghana:
Ghana will be looking for redemption here in North America, after a shambolic Africa Cup of Nations qualification saw them fail to make the finals for the first time in 20 years.
Despite comfortably qualifying for World Cup 2026, Ghana dispatched former Head Coach Otto Addo and brought in international managerial veteran Carlos Queiroz, who is currently managing his ninth different country, having managed Iran in 2022. The primary reason for the change was the Black Stars' worrying form since qualification, drawing just one of seven games and losing the other six.
The big team news for Ghana is the omission of Thomas Partey, who was denied a visa by the Canadian government and will have to remain in Boston, he should however be available for the games against England and Croatia.
Ghana should start in a 4-2-3-1 line up with Athletic Club forward Inaki Williams up front. Antoine Semenyo, Jordan Ayew and Abdul Fatawu sit just behind Williams, with Elisha Owusu and Caleb Yirenkyi in the holding midfield positions. Three of the likely starting back four ply their trade in France and number one keeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi plays his club football at St Gallen in the Swiss Super League.
Panama:
Panama were the main beneficiaries from the automatic qualification for USA, Canada and Mexico and were the biggest name in CONCACAF qualification. They lived up to the billing with an undefeated campaign in the second round of three wins and three draws to secure their place at WC2026.
Former Leeds manager Thomas Christiansen has been the manager of Los Canaleros since 2020 and will see the extended format as a real chance to qualify from Group L. This match will be vital to securing one of those all-important top three places.
The only name likely recognisable to English fans is Norwich City left wing-back Jose Cordoba.

Ghana vs Panama Key Players:
Antoine Semenyo (Ghana)Â
Semenyo went from a big fish in a small pool at Bournemouth to swimming in an ocean of talent at Manchester City in January. However, his start at the Etihad has been nothing short of magnificent, with seven goals to add to the 10 he scored for the Cherries. He also scored the decisive goal in the FA Cup final, to beat Chelsea 1-0 with a classy backheel finish.
His record for the Black Stars isn't as impressive however, with just three goals to his name in 34 appearances.
Adalberto Carrasquilla (Panama)
Panama's best player Carrasquilla (better known as Coco) has suffered an injury-ridden build up to his World Cup campaign and it appears unlikely he will start in the midnight kick-off on Wednesday. However, he has been seen in training this week and it wouldn't be a surprise to see Christiansen utilise him from the bench in the latter stages.
The 27-year-old plys his trade for Pumas UNAM in Mexico and has 73 caps for the Panamanians. Coco was named in the 2023 CONCACAF Golf Cup squad, so has proven his quality in big tournaments previously...
