Germany vs Paraguay Bet Builder Tips: 11/1 for German progression

Germany topped Group E but lost to Ecuador in dramatic fashion in their final group game. Their first knockout test comes against Paraguay, who snuck through Group D as one of the best third-place teams.

Germany to win

Germany have been handed a relatively simple last-32 tie here and I fully expect Julian Nagelsmann’s side to cruise past Paraguay. Having needed a last-minute goal to beat Ivory Coast, Ecuador then produced a stunning comeback against the Germans, but with nothing to play for I’m not sure we can read too much into that. 

The front four of Kai Havertz, Florian Wirtz, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane is obviously dangerous, and they have shown a good amount of attacking variation during this tournament so far. The 10-men of Paraguay dug in superbly to beat Turkey 1-0, but that was their only win of what was a relatively simple group stage.

With Brighton midfielder Diego Gomez suspended, I think they are in for a rough evening.

Florian Wirtz 1+ assist (Sub Switch)

The Liverpool man has been plugging away steadily for Germany at the World Cup, registering two assists in three group games so far. With Musiala and Sane rotating and Havertz dropping in to help, Wirtz should have plenty of opportunities to set one of them up against a Paraguay outfit that kept two clean sheets in their group, but were torn apart by USA.

I think against elite opposition they will struggle, so Wirtz should be able to tee up one of his teammates.

However, I think the real benefit from this pick comes as Deniz Undav is likely to be the man who replaces him from the bench, and he has been on fire, scoring three goals without starting a match. The Stuttgart man scored twice off the bench against Ivory Coast, and if he comes on with the Germans level-pegging, is likely to bag.

Juan Jose Caceres to get booked (Sub Switch)

I want to round off by picking out a Paraguayan booking. Juan Jose Caceres is the right wing-back for Paraguay and made two fouls in the 0-0 draw with Australia. He also made two fouls in the win over Turkey and made three fouls and picked up a yellow in the 4-1 USA defeat. 

He’s going to be up against Musiala and Wirtz and you feel it's going to be a tough night for the Dinamo defender. I think he’s best priced to get booked here given his tendency to foul, while Betfred’s Sub Switch offer could also help us out.
