Faroe Islands vs Czech Republic Prediction: Hosts to put the visitors to work

After a thumping 4-0 victory over Montenegro in Uefa World Cup qualifying on Thursday, the Faroe Islands will be fired up for their clash with Czech Republic in Torshavn on Sunday (17:00 BST).

Team News

Following their historic victory over Montenegro on Thursday, Faroe Islands will not want to disrupt their winning side, so few alterations - if any - are expected to be made for this clash.

Odmar Faero, Gunnar Vatnhamar and Andrias Edmundsson should continue in defence as they seek to record a third consecutive clean sheet.

Despite his outstanding domestic form for NSI Runavik this season, Petur Knudsen is set to be limited to a place on the bench.

No fresh injuries have been reported ahead of Sunday's contest.

Football Odds

After they also kept a clean sheet in their last match against Croatia, Czech Republic should deploy a centre-back pairing of Martin Vitik and Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Ladislav Krejci.

Narodak boss Ivan Hasek may opt for changes further up the pitch after his side failed to score in Prague last time out, so we may see Matej Vydra enter the fray from the off.

The hosts have won their last two qualifiers and they are 7/1 to come out on top against the Czech Republic.

The visitors drew their last outing and the stalemate is priced at 18/5, while they are the 2/5 favourites to collect the three points. Czech Republic are 11/5 (implied probability of 30.3%) to win and both teams to score - which was the outcome in the reverse fixture back in March.

With Croatia boasting a game in hand over the Czech Republic, Hasek's side will feel as though the game on Thursday was a missed opportunity. Now they are hoping for Croatia to slip up but they need to make sure they are there waiting if they do.

After blanking in that match, I sense there will be a determination to deliver a clinical attacking display and I predict there will be goals in Sunday's game. The Faroe Islands will make them work for it, though, having won back-to-back fixtures in qualifying.

Four points separate the two sides currently and a win for the home team could add some spice to this group. The two sides met back in March and Czech Republic did emerge victorious, winning 2-1.

That was at home, though, so this will be a much tougher ask. The hosts are pumped up after their record-breaking win over Montenegro, so they should be feeling confident in defeating Hasek's men here.

However, I am expecting one or two individuals for the visitors to step up and deliver the goods. Patrik Schick has been a big miss up top for this international window, but there are still others in their ranks who can fill the void he has temporarily left with his injury.

I think over 2.5 goals is worth adding to the selection because it has struck in three of the Czech Republic's six qualifiers to date, including against Sunday's opponents. This has also been a winning selection in two of the Faroe Islands' home games in qualifying.

The Faroe Islands are most likely on cloud nine after their latest match, and they will look to carry that momentum into their fixture with the Czech Republic. They were on the scoresheet when the two sides met back in March, and I am predicting history to repeat itself here.

They are the home side on this occasion and they fired four goals past Montenegro last time out. BTTS may have only struck in two of their six qualifiers to date but it has been a winning selection in three games of the visitors.
