Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers looks like developing into a race between Bosnia-Herzegovina and Austria.

The Balkans boys hold a three-point advantage over Austria, having won their opening four qualification contests, but Tuesday’s Zenica tie gives Das Team an opportunity to move level on points with the section leaders. Arjan Malic and Sead Kolasinac will miss the contest through injury, Anel Ahmedhodzic is not under consideration for selection and Ermin Bicakcic and Dario Saric missed out on the squad.

Marko Arnautovic was substituted at half-time in Austria’s 1-0 win over Cyprus, but the veteran forward is fit to play against Bosnia.

However, the former Inter MIlan man may lose his starting role to Michael Gregoritsch. Maximilian Wober and Gernot Trauner are both out for the visitors.

Bosnia-Herzegovina hold a three point lead on Austria at the top of Group H of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but the Dragons have played two matches against minnows San Marino and the real standings of the table should take shape in Zenica.

Austria could only manage a 1-0 win over Cyprus on Saturday, but that was a bizarre contest where a sinkhole opened up on the Raiffeisen Arena pitch and Ralf Rangnick’s men did record 71 per cent possession and create an expected goals for figure of 2.14.

Das Team have lost one only of their last nine games and we saw at Euro 2024 that Rangnick had created a coherent, dangerous and high-tempo side.

Bosnia-Herzegovina have won only four of their last 17 matches and two of those victories came against an extremely low-level San Marino team.

The Dragons are in a false position and Austria should show their class on Tuesday.

Michael Gregoritsch to score first @ 9/2

Arnautovic has been a superb performer for Austria over the years, but the 36-year-old is in the twilight of his career and the former Inter forward offered little before being withdrawn at half-time against Cyprus.

Michael Gregoritsch was the man to replace Arnautovic and it would be no surprise if Ralf Rangnick handed the Brondby forward a starting role against Bosnia-Herzegovina.

The 31-year-old has scored 14 goals in his last 24 international appearances and Gregoritsch found the net in his two most recent starts against San Marino and Romania.

The former Freiburg forward looks a good first scorer option at the Bilino Polje Stadium.
