It’s been a deeply disappointing campaign for Greece, who fancied themselves to at least clinch a play-off spot when the qualifying groups were announced last December.
After battering Tuesday’s opponents in Piraeus on the opening matchday, Ivan Jovanović’s men suffered three consecutive defeats, leaving their World Cup dreams in tatters.
A thrilling 3-2 triumph over Scotland on Saturday night would have helped to lift spirits in the Greek camp, although a late fightback from the visitors further exposed their defensive vulnerabilities.
Belarus are playing their ‘home’ fixtures in Hungary while native fans remain locked out of all stadiums.
A sequence of five consecutive defeats was impressively broken over the weekend, as the Belarussians claimed an unlikely point against Denmark.
With both teams possessing no hope of qualifying for next summer’s finals in North America, this one is likely to be a low-key affair.
Team News
Greece captain Anastasios Bakasetas serves a one-match suspension, after the creative midfielder received two yellow cards in the space of 20 second-half minutes against Scotland.
There are two further absentees for the visitors, with West Ham’s Konstantinos Mavropanos carrying a hamstring injury and Sporting Lisbon centre-forward Fotis Ioannidis out with an unknown issue.
With only pride to play for, Jovanovic may opt to hand highly-rated teenager Charalampos Kostoulas his first international start after making his debut against Scotland.
That could result in Vangelis Pavlidis being demoted to the bench, who has only netted once in qualifying despite banging in the goals for club side Benfica.
Belarus boss Carlos Alos has a full complement to choose from, but will likely continue with his policy of prioritising younger players.
The Spanish tactician omitted experienced trio Yury Kavalyow, Sergey Politevich, and Aleksandr Martynovich from his current squad, while showing faith in the likes of 22-year-old CSKA Sofia goalkeeper Fedor Lapoukhov and teenage centre-forward Trofim Melnichenko, who left native outfit Dinamo Minsk to sign for Portuguese giants Porto in January.
Belarus vs Greece Predicted Lineups
- Belarus: Lapoukhov; Parkhomenko, Begunov, Zabelin; Malashevich, Yablonski, Ebong, Pechenin; Demchenko, Gromyko; Lisakovich
- Greece: Vlachodimos; Vagiannidis, Retsos, Koulierakis, Tsimikas; Kourbelis, Mouzakitis; Karetsas, Bakasetas, Tzolis; Pavlidis
Despite having the home advantage, Belarus are 8/1 outsiders, while the draw is 9/2 and Greece are 3/10.
Over 2.5 goals is available at 8/15, while it is 5/6 for both teams to find the back of the net.
Belarus vs Greece Stats
- Both teams have scored in four of Greece's five qualifying matches
- Konstantinos Karetsas has registered eight assists for club and country this season
Greece to win and BTTS @ 7/4
Both teams have scored in four of Greece’s five qualifying matches, while there have been three or more goals in all of them. The Euro 2004 winners are yet to keep a single clean sheet, having seen their net breached on 12 occasions so far.
After a disastrous start to their qualification campaign which produced heavy losses to both Greece and Denmark, Belarus have shown a lot more quality over the last two fixtures. Before netting twice to claim a hard-earned draw in the Danish capital on Saturday night, Alos’ side were unlucky not to take a share of the spoils at Hampden.

Konstantinos Karetsas to score and assist @ 10/1
Considered one of Europe’s hottest prospects, Karetsas is already Greece’s most potent attacking weapon. The Genk-born wonderkid has already registered three goals for his nation, two of which have come against Scotland across Nations League and World Cup qualifying ties. Karetsas has also recorded eight assists for club and country this term, highlighting his immense creativity.
After initially navigating his way through Belgium’s youth ranks, the intelligent playmaker became the Greeks’ second-youngest player in history a mere four months after celebrating his seventeenth birthday.
He’ll win his ninth international cap on Tuesday night – don’t be surprised if he marks it with a couple of direct goal contributions.
