Team News

Belarus' squad for their upcoming qualifiers against Denmark and Scotland includes 83-cap defender Alyaksandr Martynovich (Kairat) and 50-cap midfielder Max Ebong (Astana), as well as German Barkovskiy (Piast, on loan from Puszcza Niepołomice), who scored the White Wings' consolation effort from the penalty spot in their 5-1 defeat to Greece last month.

Valeriy Gromyko (Kairat) played alongside Martynovich in his club side's 5-0 loss to Real Madrid in the Uefa Champions League last week, and the 28-year-old was in the thick of the action against the Spanish giants, recording three shots (one on target), four tackles and one foul. Gromyko will be among those hoping to earn a recall to Carlos Alos' starting XI, having begun the defeat to Greece before being utilised as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 reverse to Scotland three days later.

World Cup Odds

Christian Eriksen (VFL Wolfsburg), Christian Norgaard (Arsenal), Gustav Isaksen (Lazio) and Mads Roerslev (Southampton) have all returned to Denmark's squad after missing last month's goalless draw with Scotland and 3-0 victory over Greece.

Rasmus Hojlund (Napoli, on loan from Manchester United), Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United), Matt O'Riley (Olympique Marseille, on loan from Brighton & Hove Albion), Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (Olympique Marseille) and Andreas Christensen (FC Barcelona) are some of the other big-name players in Brian Riemer's squad.

However, the likes of Victor Kristiansen (Leicester City), Albert Gronbaek (Genoa, on loan from Stade Rennais), Morten Frendrup (Genoa), Kasper Dolberg (Ajax) and William Osula (Newcastle United) miss out, while Rasmus Kristensen (Eintracht Frankfurt) has withdrawn from the squad due to injury.

Today's Football Fixtures

Belarus vs Denmark Odds

Belarus won their first three games of the calendar year (all friendlies) before losing their next three (one friendly, two World Cup qualifiers); the White Wings are a massive 25/1 to return to winning ways on Thursday, implying a 3.8% probability of success, while Denmark, who began their qualification campaign with a goalless draw at home to Scotland before triumphing 3-0 in Piraeus against Greece, are 1/8, or an 88.9% chance, to claim back-to-back victories.

The draw is priced at 7/1, both teams to score at 21/10, and over 2.5 total goals at 8/13.

Belarus vs Denmark Stats

  • Belarus have lost both Group C games so far
  • Denmark beat Greece 3-0 in their first away match
  • Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (DEN) has registered five shots on target across his last three caps
  • Denmark have conceded 3+ corners in their last nine competitive contests

Bet Builder: Match Result - Denmark & Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg (DEN) Total Shots on Target - 1+ @ 13/10

It would be a huge shock if Denmark failed to beat Belarus on Thursday, given the disparity in quality between the two sides. Fifa's World Rankings certainly aren't the be-all and end-all, but the Danes are 20th, and Belarus are 100th, highlighting just how far apart these two nations are.

Belarus have only won one of their last eight competitive contests (D4, L3), and opened up their World Cup qualification campaign with back-to-back defeats against Greece (5-1) and Scotland (0-2), failing to even find the net at home in the latter.

Denmark, on the other hand, are unbeaten in Group C, and will be confident of picking up maximum points against Belarus, who are playing their home games in Hungary, making their task even more difficult.

I'm also backing Danish midfielder Hojbjerg to register at least one shot on target in Zalaegerszeg. The 30-year-old got off the mark this season for club side Marseille in a 5-2 victory over Paris FC on August 23, and he now goes in search of his first international goal since September 2024.

Hojbjerg has threatened in Group C, forcing a save with the final of his five shots against Scotland, and seeing two of his three efforts against Greece thwarted by Konstantinos Tzolakis.

The Denmark captain also had two shots saved in a 5-0 friendly victory over Lithuania on June 10, meaning he has registered five shots on target across his last three national team appearances.

He should get a few opportunities to strike at goal on Thursday, and I'm expecting him to at least put Fedor Lapoukhov to work between the Belarusian sticks.

Home Team Total Corners Over/Under +2.5 - Over 2.5 @ 7/4

Belarus have taken 3+ corners in seven of their last eight competitive games, only failing to reach that number last time out against Scotland, where they exchanged four with Steve Clarke's side.

The White Wings haven't played a team on the level of Denmark in that time, but they were awarded seven corners against Greece in Piraeus last month, which is a hefty return from a difficult away trip.

Denmark, meanwhile, have conceded 3+ corners in their last nine competitive contests, albeit all nine matches have been played against nations ranked in the top 50.

However, if you go back to their 2-0 friendly win against the Faroe Islands in March 2024, you can see their opponents took three corners.

Over 2.5 home team total corners, then, starts to look tempting at 7/4.
