PSG vs Bayern Munich Prediction: No pleasant Kompany for Vincent

The glamour tie of the Fifa Club World Cup quarter-finals comes our way on Saturday as PSG face Bayern Munich at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta (20:00 BST, live on Betfred). After the shock exit of Manchester City, the European champions PSG are now favourites to go all the way - and judging by the way they dismantled Inter Miami in the last 16 - rightly so.
Below you can find my PSG vs Bayern Munich predictions featuring team news and more.

Team News
Ousmane Dembele played half an hour against Inter Miami as he continued his return from injury, and it feels like he will be in from the start for this crucial quarter-final. Bradley Barcola was chosen to lead the line against Inter Miami and while he did well, Luis Enrique is surely going to restore star man Dembele to the forward line, alongside Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue.
Joao Neves scored twice from midfield in a stunning display, and will play alongside Fabian Ruiz, who was taken off at the break, and Vitinha. Marquinhos was also handed a rest at half-time but should start at centre-back alongside Willian Pacho at the back, with Nuno Mendes on the left side of defence and Achraf Hakimi on the right.
That’s a rock-solid XI, while Barcola, Goncalo Ramos and Senny Mayulu could be called upon if needed.
PSG vs Bayern Munich Stats
- PSG have conceded just one goal in their last six
- PSG have won eight of their last nine
- Bayern lost the xG battle vs Flamengo
Bayern are a bit of a strange proposition right now, but their XI should be fairly settled. Harry Kane scored twice in the last 16 and will lead the line, supported by Michael Olise and Kingsley Coman. Serge Gnabry will battle it out with Jamal Musiala for the number 10 role, with the latter having come off the bench against Flamengo as he continued his recovery from a minor issue.
Aleksandar Pavlovic or Leon Goretzka will partner Joshua Kimmich in midfield, while Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah will continue their centre-back partnership under Vincent Kompany.
PSG are priced at 5/4 for this one which gives them an implied win probability of 44.4%, while Bayern are up at 21/10 to get the job done in 90 minutes. A draw can be backed at 11/4 if you fancy extra time in this clash of the giants, while over 2.5 goals is up at 8/15.
BTTS by the same measure is 1/2, while Harry Kane is the favourite to score first for Bayern at 9/2, while Dembele is 5/1 to find the net first in this last-eight clash.
PSG to win to nil @ 18/5
I’m going to be pretty blunt with my explanations for these selections. PSG are the best team in the world right now and I don’t think Bayern Munich are even close to being on the same level as them at this moment in time. Luis Enrique has carefully crafted a talented outfit that can dominate any team on the planet, and the hard work of the attackers does not go unnoticed.
The last-16 win over Inter Miami was brutal, as they raced into a four-goal lead before taking their foot off the gas and making changes. Let’s not forget that PSG also battered Atletico Madrid 4-0 in their opener, before losing to Botafogo and easing past Seattle Sounders. They’ve won eight of their last nine matches in all competitions, conceding only four goals along the way, and I feel their strong defensive record goes under the radar somewhat.
Yes, I know they are coming up against Kane and Co., but PSG have only conceded once at the Club World Cup and rarely give the opposition a sniff - having won the xG battle in each match they’ve played at this competition by some margin. I think the price on them to win this one to nil is absolutely massive given they are the best team on the planet right now.

Over 2.5 PSG goals @ 5/2
The European champions, along with their infallible defence, are also a massive threat moving forward. I think they can take advantage of a Bayern back line that has been shaking, rattling and rolling in this competition.
Their only clean sheet so far came against some part-time New Zealanders in the form of Auckland City, while they’ve now conceded four goals in their last three games. Flamengo were able to get at them in the last 16, not only scoring twice, but winning the xG fight by 1.60 to 1.08.
I don’t think Bayern can get away with this fragility against PSG, who looked like they could have scored 10 against Inter Miami. Add Dembele back into the mix and this could be a long night for Kompany's boys.
