Inter Milan and River Plate bring their group stage campaigns to a close in the Fifa World Cup on Thursday (02:00 BST, DAZN) when they meet at Lumen Field. The two teams are both currently sat on four points in Group E and now they are battling it out for top spot.

Draw or River Plate

This is going to be a very tough game for Inter because River have handled themselves well in the USA so far. They may have been held to a 0-0 draw with Monterrey last time out but it is a match they dominated and really should have won.

Inter are still in the very early days of a regime change, with Cristian Chivu taking over from Simone Inzaghi in the dugout. The Nerazzurri are still reeling from their Uefa Champions League final humbling against Paris Saint-Germain, and they are yet to really get going at the Club World Cup.

Fatigue from a gruelling season is the most likely factor but the Italian giants are also having to cope without players due to injury. Yann Bisseck, Hakan Calhanoglu (both thigh), Piotr Zielinski (calf) and Benjamin Pavard (unspecified) were all missing in the last match and they are all considered doubts to feature on Thursday.

This may just give River Plate a psychological advantage coming into this clash and I think they could be in line to inflict more pain on Inter. Chivu may be boosted by the returns of Marcus Thuram and Denzel Dumfries but it may not be enough against Los Millonarios.

River have a few suspensions to contend with which is a concern - so that's why I think the added insurance of a draw here could be of great benefit. Inter will be out to make a statement here but they are facing their toughest test to date. From what we have seen from South American sides at this tournament so far, you just don't want to bet against them.

Lautaro Martinez anytime goalscorer

While the Nerazzurri as a collective have not been at their best just yet, their skipper, Lautaro Martinez, has been playing his part. The native Argentine has scored in consecutive matches in the USA so far and so he will head into this Group E decider with confidence and plenty of momentum behind him.

This has been a tough year for Inter and Martinez after missing out on both the Champions League and the Serie A titles. Reports in the media are already trying to drum up interest in the Argentina international this summer and some do wonder if this chapter of his career is coming to an end.

It's all speculation at the moment and the 27-year-old doesn't seem fazed by it as he continues to lead the club on the pitch. He is often their source of inspiration and I think he can deliver another goal here.
