Bayern Munich get their Club World Cup underway as they face Auckland City on Sunday at the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati (17:00, Channel 5). The German giants are one of the favourites to go all the way in the United States of America and Vincent Kompany’s men are fresh off the back of winning the Bundesliga title.

This is going to be an annihilation in my opinion. Bayern should be able to wipe the floor with the New Zealanders and the odds of 1/200 on offer for them to win this game suggest the same. It means we are going to have to go big in order to find some value, and I think the way to go is backing plenty of Bayern goals, and some goalscorers as well.

Let’s start by backing over 5.5 goals for the nominated home side. Kompany’s men scored 99 goals in 34 league matches this term, and are a mighty attacking force. Harry Kane scored his 73rd goal for England against Senegal and will return to meet up with the squad in the United States of America, while there’s plenty of other attacking talent which we will come to later on. 

Auckland City currently sit third in New Zealand’s top flight, but they are going to be well out of their depth here. Bayern should have a field day in the opener.

Harry Kane to score 2+ 

Onto the goalscorers, and I have to select Kane to score a couple in this opener. He’s obviously the biggest threat, and the odds on offer are short, but it’s still a likely outcome. Thirty eight goals in 46 games in all competitions for his club this term speaks for itself and he should be able to fill his boots against the minnows.

Michael Olise to score from outside the box

To boost our odds, I’m going to back Bayern's Michael Olise to score from outside the box against Auckland. He has become one of the finest players in world football, and Bayern are now in a situation where Jamal Musiala is returning from a hamstring injury, and Leroy Sane has joined Galatasaray - meaning Olise has to step up, along with Serge Gnabry. 

Auckland City Club World Cup Predictions

Along with Musiala, he was the joint-second top scorer for Bayern with 12 league goals and I think he will really enjoy this game against a weak Auckland defence. Four of those goals have come from outside the box, including the free-kick against Hoffenheim on the final day, so he is the value pick to score from outside the area for me, especially given he will be taking those set pieces.
