The Faroe Islands are already tailed off in their Euro 2024 qualifying group, but the expectations are a lot greater for Poland and they still have plenty of work to do to gain their place at next summer’s finals in Germany.

The Poles have been solid on their own patch – they beat next summer’s hosts in a recent friendly – but their away qualifying performances have been poor as they have lost in the Czech Republic, Moldova and Albania.

So, they are desperate for an away victory in Torsvollur o Thursday, against a team who have lost their last four matches and a repeat of the 2-0 win they gained in the reverse fixture would do nicely.

Faroe Islands vs Poland Prediction

  • Poland to win to nil @ 5/6
  • #PickYourPunt – Draw-Poland half/full result, under 3.5 goals, over 5.5 Poland corners @ 6/1

Team news

Poland manager Michal Probierz will have to go into battle without his talisman as Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out with an ankle injury.

Further changes will also have to be made after Grzegorz Krychowiak announced he was returning from international football, while Southampton defender Jan Bednarek has not travelled.

The Faroes could include midfielder Mads Mikkelsen in their starting line-up after he missed their last game, a 1-0 home defeat to Moldova.

Poland to win to nil @ 5/6

Poland will not have many more chances left to get back in the running for a Euro 2024 qualification spot – they are four points behind Group E leaders Albania – and a victory in the Faroes is essential.

Not having Lewandowski available is a blow – he scored both goals in the 2-0 win in the reverse fixture – but this looks a more straightforward assignment than their unsuccessful trips to Moldova, Albania and the Czech Republic.

The Faroes earned a point in Moldova, but they have lost their last five matches. With just two goals in their five qualifiers, they are unlikely to possess much of a goal threat, so it makes sense to back the visitors to win without conceding.

#PickYourPunt – Draw-Poland half-full result, under 3.5 goals, over 5.5 Poland corners  @ 6/1

Damage limitation could be the name of the game for the hosts so they will try and make sure they are not breached earlier on.

Lewandowski’s absence means it could take Poland time to get into their stride, so the first element of the #PickYourPunt selection could be to back the draw-Poland half/full result because there is a decent chance that a team who have struggled lately may not make a breakthrough before the interval.

Such an approach could lead to few goals and with it unlikely that either Poland go goal-crazy or the Faroes make their mark, under 3.5 goals looks a sensible option, while Probierz’s side have forced at least six corners in four of their last five games so go for them to have more than 5.5 in Torsvollur.

Match Odds

Despite Poland’s recent poor away record, they are expected to have few problems claiming three points from Thursday’s match and they are 3/10 to win in the Faroes.

The home side can be backed at 10/1 but they are not expected to find the net with both teams to score available at 11/8.

A price of 5 ⁄ 6 has been chalked up for both under and over 2.5 goals, while a repeat of the 2-0 Poland win which occurred in the reverse fixture can be backed at 9/2.
