Everton and Aston Villa return to Premier League action at Goodison Park on Sunday (KO, 14:00), with both sides playing their first league game of the calendar year.

The FA Cup third round acted as a welcome respite for the Toffees last week, as they ended a three-game losing run with a creditable 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace.

Sean Dyche's side face a replay against the Eagles on Wednesday, but the league takes priority with the Merseyside club just one point above 18th-placed Luton Town, who have played a game fewer.

Villa left it late to advance in the cup at Middlesbrough, with Matty Cash scoring in the 87th minute, but with Liverpool not playing until next weekend, Unai Emery's charges now have the opportunity to go level on points at the top of the Premier League with a win on Sunday.

Everton vs Aston Villa Betting Tips:

  • Draw or Aston Villa and both teams to score @ 23/20
  • Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 8/5

Team News

Everton were dealt a severe injury blow this week, with the issue Dwight McNeil picked up at Selhurst Park deemed serious enough to rule him out of this fixture.

There's better news on Abdoulaye Doucoure, though, with the 31-year-old in contention to face the Villans after five matches out. Dominic Calvert-Lewin is also available after his red card against Palace was successfully overturned.

Idrissa Gana Gueye is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, however.

The visitors, meanwhile, have a player of their own - Bertrand Traore - at the tournament in Ivory Coast, while Lucas Digne also misses out through injury.

Pau Torres and Youri Tielemans are back in training, though, and could return to the squad for Sunday.

Match Odds

Everton are 9/5 to beat Villa at Goodison for the first time since 2015, while the Midlands club are 7/5 to record a fourth consecutive victory there. The draw is priced at 5/2.

Both teams to score on Sunday is 8/15 and it's 4/6 for over 2.5 goals.

Draw or Aston Villa and both teams to score @ 23/20

Villa beat Everton 4-0 at Villa Park in August and haven't lost in the league to them since March 2016, so they should be confident of at least avoiding defeat on Sunday, especially given the 26-point (16 if the Premier League's 10-point deduction is removed) lead they have on the Toffees in the table.

Dyche did mastermind a Carabao Cup victory over the Villans in September, and the Blues have won three of their last six league matches at Goodison.

That match in the cup saw several regular starters dropped to the bench for Villa, though, including Emi Martinez, Boubacar Kamara and Ollie Watkins, who should all begin the game on Sunday.

Villa have only failed to score in two Premier League contests this term and should be confident of getting a positive results - and at least one goal - against a side without a clean sheet in their last three in the competition.

Everton have scored in eight of their last nine at Goodison, however, and could pose a threat to Villa, who have only managed one shutout in 10 league games on the road.

Draw or Aston Villa and both teams to score in Everton vs Aston Villa at 23-20

Ollie Watkins to score anytime @ 8/5

Watkins is on something of a slump in front of goal, with just two in his last eight games, seven of which he has started.

However, his form away from home has remained solid, with three goals in his last four on the road, and he looks best-placed in the Villa side to find the net on Sunday.
