Everton Premier League Odds: Toffees embark on new era under familiar face

After 12 years away, David Moyes managed to guide Everton to a 13th-placed finish in the Premier League last season, which is impressive considering the Toffees were just one point above the relegation zone when Sean Dyche was relieved of his duties in January.

The feeling around Everton at the moment is one of optimism.
The Toffees move into their new home at the Hill Dickinson Stadium this term, ushering in a new era, and the team feels a lot more stable under Moyes than it did under Dyche 12 months ago.
The Blues took 31 points from 19 league games under Moyes last season, a dramatic improvement on the 17 from 19 collected towards the end of the Dyche reign – that form under the returning Scot would have seen them finish eighth when calculated across the whole of the 2024/25 season.
Is a top-eight finish on the cards? Probably not, given the players that have left the club, but that’s where a club like Everton should be aiming.

Transfer Business:
Transfers In: Thierno Barry (Villarreal - £27m), Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Chelsea – £28m), Carlos Alcaraz (Flamengo - undisclosed), Adam Aznou (Bayern Munich - undisclosed), Mark Travers (Bournemouth - undisclosed), Jack Grealish (Manchester City – loan)
Transfers Out: Neal Maupay (Marseille - £4m), Mason Holgate (Al-Gharafa – free transfer), Joao Virginia (Sporting CP – free transfer), Ashley Young (Ipswich Town – free transfer), Asmir Begovic (Leicester City – free transfer), Dominic Calvert-Lewin (released), Abdoulaye Doucoure (released), Billy Crellin (released)
As mentioned above, nine members of last season’s first team have departed for pastures new, and regardless of ability, that’s a lot of experience leaving the dressing room.
Moyes himself has admitted it’s been a struggle to secure the signature of several first-choice targets due to a lack of European football and too many recent scrapes with relegation.
One of the standout arrivals is France U21 forward Thierno Barry from Villarreal. The 22-year-old made an immediate impact at the Spanish club, scoring 11 times in La Liga last year, after joining them from Basel the previous summer, and he fits the profile of Moyes’ Everton – tall, physical and a handful.
The other notable addition is Jack Grealish. The England international played a key part in Manchester City's treble triumph a couple of years ago but has since fallen out of favour at the Etihad. The Toffees need to score more goals and Grealish tends to thrive when he is the main creative outlet, as shown from his days at Aston Villa.
Keeping hold of Jarrad Branthwaite is a huge boost to the Toffees, too, after the 23-year-old penned a new five-year deal in July.
Key Player: Jordan Pickford
The former Sunderland man has been a mainstay between the sticks for what seems an eternity now, and he hardly ever puts a foot wrong – although when he does, it’s usually memorable (see file marked: Merseyside derby - December 2018…).
Nevertheless, Pickford is arguably the main reason as to why Everton are still a Premier League side, after flirting with relegation on several occasions over the past few years.
The 31-year-old kept 12 clean sheets last year and will no doubt be a major factor in any success the Toffees enjoy this term.

Prediction: 12th
At the time of writing, Everton haven’t signed enough quality to break into the top half of the table.
There’s no doubting that the Toffees will be defensively sound – that’s a given for any team under Moyes’ stewardship. However, it’s the other end of the pitch where there could be problems.
The signings of Grealish and Barry can aid with a lack of goals, but the latter in particular is an unknown quantity on these shores.
