Team News
Freiburg are still missing Daniel-Kofi Kyereh, who has been out of action for two years with knee issues, but the attacking midfielder is building up his fitness to make a return to the pitch.
Goalkeeper Noah Atubolu made history in the Bundesliga over the weekend as he became the first man to save five penalties in a row, denying Werder Bremen's Romano Schmid in the 3-0 victory for his side.
Forward Junior Adamu shone in that match, grabbing a goal and as assist. He is set for his first European appearance since 2023.
Benie Traore is a doubt for the trip to Germany, having missed Basel's last six matches due to a leg problem.
Finn van Breemen is also expected to miss out here, with the centre-back still recuperating from a knee injury he picked up in March.
Attacker Albian Ajeti is the danger man for the Swiss side, with four of his last five goals for Basel coming on the road.
Ex-Liverpool and Stoke City man Xherdan Shaqiri is also worth keeping an eye on, considering the Swiss superstar has made eight goal contributions in his previous eight competitive outings for the Swiss giants.
Freiburg vs Basel Predicted Line-ups
- Freiburg - Atubolu; Makengo, Lienhart, Ginter, Kubler; Osterhage, Eggestein; Grifo, Holer, Beste; Adamu
- Basel - Hitz; Schmid, Barisic, Vouilloz, Tsunemoto; Otele, Metinho, Koindredi, Salah; Shaqiri, Ajeti
Freiburg have won their last two matches heading into Wednesday and they are 8/11 (implied probability of 57.9%) to come out on top.
Basel's last match was away from home and ended in a draw (in regulation time) against Etoile Carouge in the Swiss Cup. The stalemate is marketed at 3/1.
They are 10/3 to leave with the three points and they have won three of their past five away trips in all competitions.
Three of Freiburg's last four games have produced over 3.5 goals, which is available at 11/8.
Freiburg vs Basel Stats
- Freiburg have won their previous two games
- BTTS has been a winning selection in three of their past four fixtures
- Over 2.5 goals has struck in the hosts' last four matches
Price Boost - Freiburg and both teams to score @ 2/1 9/4
Freiburg look like they are finally getting into a groove. After losing their first two Bundesliga fixtures of the season, they have won back-to-back games against VfB Stuttgart and Werder Bremen - so Julian Schuster's side are heading into this European match with some much-needed momentum.
The home advantage is likely to help against a Basel, a club well-seasoned when it comes to competing at the European level. This makes an interesting first contest for both clubs, and I think they will both regard this as a difficult test.
Basel have a good record of late on their travels but a trip to a Bundesliga side is going to ask a lot of them. They can make this a competitive affair, though, which should make for good entertainment.
The hosts have had to be patient in the first few weeks of the season but two consecutive victories suggest they have made the necessary tweaks to get them firing. And with with six goals scored in that period, I think they will have enough firepower to get off to a flying start in the Europa League.
Both teams to score is the second part of this Price Boost and three of Freiburg's last four outings have seen both sides get on the scoresheet, and I believe this trend will continue on Wednesday.

Over 2.5 goals @ 8/15
We may just be weeks into the Bundesliga season but goals have not been in short supply when Freiburg have been involved. The Breisgau-Brasilianer have seen 16 goals scored in total across their four league appearances to date in 2025/26.
Over 2.5 goals has been a winning selection in each and every one of them, and so I think this market offers good value to strike again in their opening Europa League match.
For Basel, there have been at least three goals scored in five of their six Swiss Super League matches so far this term, and they rank joint-highest in the division for this threshold.
The evidence points to there being plenty of goals on offer in Freiburg im Breisgau.
