FCSB vs Fenerbahce Prediction: Back 5/1 hosts in Bucharest

FCSB head into Thursday night’s Uefa Europa League game against Fenerbahce (20:00 GMT, Discovery+) knowing that anything but a victory will end their chances of reaching the knockout phase play-offs. Their opponents have already secured a top-24 spot and are highly unlikely to qualify directly to the last 16, as they would need to win at Arena Nationala and hope several other results go their way.
Below are my FCSB vs Fenerbahce predictions, supported by team news and match odds.

Team News
Daniel Birligea, FCSB’s leading goalscorer in Europe this season, is suspended for Thursday’s game, while Mihai Popescu, Ionut Cercel (both knee) and Florin Tanase (muscle) are out injured for Elias Charalambous’ side.
Fenerbahce head coach Domenico Tedesco will have to make do without suspended defender Milan Skriniar, as well as the injured Levent Mercan (muscle) and Archie Brown (toe).
FCSB vs Fenerbahce Predicted Lineups
- FCSB: Tarvovanu; Cretu, Lixandru, Dawa, Pantea; Chiriches, Tanase; Cisotti, Olaru, Toma; Alibec
- Fenerbahce: Ederson; Semedo, Demir, Oosterwolde, Muldur; Fred, Alvarez; Nene, Asensio, Akturkoglu; Duran
FCSB are 5/1, or a 16.7% chance, to claim all three points in Bucharest, with Fenerbahce at 8/15 (65.2%) - and the draw is offered at 16/5.
FCSB vs Fenerbahce Stats
- FCSB beat FEY 4-3 in their last UEL home game
- FEN have won just one of their three UEL away matches (D1, L1)
- Miculescu (FCSB) opened the scoring in Sunday's 4-1 defeat
Match Result - FCSB @ 5/1
FCSB have performed pretty terribly in this competition, losing five of their seven games, while Fenerbahce have won three, drawn two and lost just twice in the league phase.
Ordinarily, I would back the Turkish giants, but since they have already qualified for the knockout phase play-offs and are highly unlikely to make the top eight, there may not be much motivation for their players on Thursday.
Fenerbahce haven’t been great on their European travels either, losing 3-1 to Dinamo Zagreb and drawing 0-0 to Viktoria Plzen before winning 4-0 at Brann, where their hosts went down to 10 men in the 18th minute.
FCSB lost their first two home game against Young Boys (0-2) and Bologna (1-2), but came from 3-1 down to beat Feyenoord 4-3 last time out in Bucharest.
The hosts need to collect all three points on Thursday to give themselves a chance of qualifying for the play-offs, so with a lot still to play for, I’m backing FCSB to win at 5/1.

Anytime Goalscorer - David Miculescu (FCSB) @ 10/3
With Birligea banned, FCSB need someone else to step up in Europe, and that man could be David Miculescu, who opened the scoring in the second minute of last Sunday’s 4-1 home defeat to CFR Cluj in the Superliga.
That was the 24-year-old’s fourth goal in 16 league appearances this season, while he’s also scored twice in 10 European outings, including the winner in September’s 1-0 league-phase victory at Go Ahead Eagles.
