Team News
Some of England's big hitters such as Harry Kane, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Morgan Rogers, Elliot Anderson and Marc Guehi will join up with the squad for the Japan match on Tuesday, so they won't feature on Friday night.
Therefore, Harry Maguire and John Stones could start at the heart of defence, and there could be recalls for Kobbie Mainoo and Adam Wharton in the engine room.
Jude Bellingham is expected to start in the number 10 role, supported in attack by Marcus Rashford and Jarrod Bowen.
As for Uruguay, Ronald Araujo and Federico Valverde are set to be notable starters, while Manuel Ugarte, who has struggled for minutes for Manchester United this season, could be given the nod in midfield.
England vs Uruguay Predicted Lineups
- England: Pickford; Livramento, Maguire, Stones, Hall; Mainoo, Wharton; Palmer, Bellingham, Bowen; Rashford
- Uruguay: Muslera; Valera, R Araujo, Gimenez, Vina; Valverde, Ugarte; Canobbio, De Arrascaeta, M Araujo; Aguirre
The Three Lions are 1/2 to claim the victory, giving them an implied win probability of 66.7%, the draw is 3/1 and Uruguay are 11/2.
Over 2.5 total goals is 1/1 and both teams to score - yes is available at 11/10. Dominic Calvert-Lewin currently leads the anytime goalscorer market at 5/4.
England vs Uruguay Stats
- England have won their last six matches
- This is the first meeting between England and Uruguay since the 2014 World Cup
- England have won two of their last 11 matches against South American nations
England to win to nil @ 5/4
While there aren't any immediate prizes for Friday's contest, it does offer Tuchel the chance to assess his squad and, more importantly, build momentum against some strong opposition from South America.
England have won just two of their last 11 matches against South American opposition, but I'm going to back them here to win to nil here. The Three Lions' defence under Tuchel has been excellent, keeping 11 clean sheets in their last 12. And frankly, if England want to go deep into this summer's tournament, they need to be winning matches such as this one.

James Garner to assist a goal @ 15/4
Next, I'm backing Everton's James Garner to record an assist at 15/4.
The former Manchester United midfielder has enjoyed an excellent season up until this point, turning provider on three occasions in his last four appearances for the Toffees. Garner has also created 44 chances for his teammates this season, making him the 11th-highest creator in the Premier League overall.
A first senior cap awaits Garner for his performances this term, and I fancy him to make his mark with an assist.
