England booked their place in the semi-final of Euro 2024 with a perfect penalty shootout against Switzerland, but their biggest test awaits on Wednesday night (20:00, ITV1). The Three Lions face the Netherlands in Gareth Southgate’s third semi-final out of the last four major tournaments.

With this likely to be the England manager’s last hurrah, now we must wait and see if he can take his side all the way to the final. Below you can find my England vs Netherlands Bet Builder Tips, as I look to pick out a winner on Wednesday night.

England vs Netherlands Betting Tips

  • Draw after 90 minutes
  • Cody Gakpo to score
  • Jude Bellingham to get booked

Draw after 90 minutes

I think these two are really well-matched and although I would love a thumping England victory, I can’t see it being a comfortable night. Southgate’s men have stuttered and spluttered up to this point, needing two late goals in the knockout stages to force extra-time, and I can see something similar unfolding here.

England tend to struggle with game state. They are fine at 0-0, but don’t go all out to chase the victory, yet when they go one goal down, as we have seen in the last two matches, the intensity is ramped up. I think it could be the case where the Dutch take the lead, before being pegged back by England once again.

Alternatively, if the Three Lions go in front, we can expect them to sit back and try and hold on. I think either tactic leads to a draw after 90 minutes, and more shredded nerves for England fans.

England vs Netherlands Odds

Cody Gakpo to score

I’m happy to back the in-form Dutchman to find the net at any time during the 90 minutes. He’s scored three times already at Euro 2024 and seems to have stepped up when his country needs him. The Dutch have scored plenty of goals at this tournament, and their attacking options are varied, with Wout Weghorst a physical option off the bench.

However, Gakpo is clearly the biggest threat coming in off the left-hand side. The Liverpool man dribbles with grace and power, while his runs into the box have been effective during this tournament. Up against Kyle Walker it will be tough, but I think he will find some space in the box and score at some point in this one.

Jude Bellingham to get booked

We’ve all seen the reports regarding referee Felix Zwayer ahead of this semi-final. He was banned for six months for taking money from another referee who had been involved in match-fixing, while he also received criticism from Jude Bellingham after taking charge of the German Cup final in 2021.

The England man was fined 40,000 euros for his post-match comments, and there is clearly an underlying feeling of frustration even before the game has kicked off. I expect Zwayer to lay down the law early on, with any slight foul being punished with a yellow card. Bellingham’s character could land him in the book in 90 minutes.
